What do you think this mini should represent?
« on: April 27, 2022, 01:20:33 PM »
I put this fellow together last night with a specific rank and position in mind but I could not find a torso with the perfect stance I was after so I am curious if I accomplished my mission… or if it should be repurposed.

More information on my blog…

What rank/position do you think this model most clearly represents?

I think that the figure looks very good.  :)

I read you blog and the clue, but I cannot recall any pictures of a soldier with a pump action shotgun in Europe in WW2.

That’s a Winchester M97 trench gun. Given that it’s a fairly distinctive and unusual weapon, in limited use even with its primary user, the US Army, I’d say your best bet for rank would be Chicago gangster, G-man or Baldwin-Felts detective/thug.

Ah just looked again. The headwear is a USMC cover? Any rank through to a senior NCO.

I really appreciate folks taking the time to voice their thoughts.

My (perhaps flawed) understanding is that both Rangers and Military Police had shotguns on their TO&E in the European theater but my idea was neither Ranger nor Military Police per se.

The hat is from the Marine sprue but I did not think the Marines have a branch specific cover at that point. I could easily be wrong. EDIT: I was wrong, they did have their own cover… although I am unsure if the one I chose looks more like a USMC cover than the Army issue M1943 Field Cap.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utility_cover

I did not have a specific movie character that I modeled this on but I did have something of a specific trope in mind.

So far folks are getting closer to my option A than B, which I suppose is good. I will let this go a bit longer to see what else folks come up with.

Hmm.  Let's see.  Smoking a cigarette, drinking coffee, and toting a shotgun.  My guess:  Platoon Sergeant for US Army  POW guards.

At that scale, the difference between the army and marine covers isn't really noticeable (I have one of each...).

I was not aiming for a FSSF vibe but yeah I can see that now.

My original thought was to make a Sergeant Major taking a rare foray from the TOC or CP but I was recently surprised to find that rank did not exist in the 40‘s. Seems there is always something new for me to learn. So perhaps better as a Company First Sergeant.

But atleast folks are not saying a pogue Supply Sergeant (ie Crapshoot from Kelly‘s Heroes)…. as I thought they might. A more assertive stance was what I was after originally but maybe this one still works.

Edit: Cat, definitely could be a Seebee NCO now that you mention it!
