Looking for 28mm 1881 dress helmets for the US
« on: May 13, 2022, 06:17:25 AM »
Looking for 28mm 1881 dress helmets for the converting Perry ACW to late 1870s/early 1880s action. Does anyone make them? I was thinking of using the home service helmets from Perry plastic Zule war set. But if someone makes separate ones that will work. I will give them a look.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The 1881 dress helmet for infantry is basically a Prussian pickelhaub, is it not? I would look at ranges for the era of Bismark, if not even into 1914. I am not sure who can supply separate heads. The British home service pattern helmet looks slightly bigger than the US dress helmet (I am looking at Redoubt Enterprises 'Victoriana' British infantry).

PS. If you do think the pickelhaub is better, Atlantic Wargames have head sprues c.1914 on Amazon.

They said taht they were Prussian inspired helmets but, they were pretty much copies of British home service helmets. But thank you just the same.  :D

I think I used Redoubt heads with Foundry bodies.

In your situation I would definitely go with the Perry home service plastic heads.

Thank you both. I actually am going to go with the Perry option. Got them in the mail the other day. Just in time for them to get pack into a box for my upcoming move cross country.  lol
So, another project that will have to wait.
