Alien - Another long term project in the making
« on: 07 June 2022, 12:35:13 PM »
Next to Predator (see my other project thread about it), Alien is probably one of the most fascinating Sci Fi universes in my eyes. It's dark, unforgiving, and (like many other classics) paints a rather bleak future for humanity. Here are my first attempts at capturing the mood. I'll probably try the much praised (solo) rules of 'Bug Hunt' with it, once I get more miniatures (Marines, Aliens, etc.) ready for it.

Nice paintwork. I have those stls of the pressure suits but haven't printed them yet. Did you think they'll require resizing to fit in with older 28mm figures?

It depends on how big or small your older 28mm really is. Since the Papsikel designs (that I have used so far) all tend towards 30mm, I would suggest making a few test prints with slightly different, lower scales to find the sweet spot. Personally, I like the slightly larger scale very much, because my old eyes can approach painting much more relaxed.

Awesome painting and a great project!  :-*

Hope to see more!

If my eyes are not playing up on me, I do believe that I can just barely make out a face behind the helmet facemask.  :o

Thanks for the information Berndi. A lot of my stuff is the older Grenadier Copplestone sculpts and Hasslefree, so I'll take your advice and try a few reduced scale prints.

Oh, how nice that someone noticed it for once. I actually tried to dab on a washed out contour with a very diluted mix (almost only water). I was hoping to get something like the hint of a face in a helmet misted over by condensed breath.

I too thought it might just be my imagination but I got that impression specifically on the middle guy. Very clever idea and well executed.

Since our brain tries to imagine familiar shapes everywhere, e.g. faces, I had hoped to achieve this effect with a few washed-out dots. I am glad that it was noticed.

I must admit, I thought it was my imagination too, it's impressive that it was intended. Did the wash you used for the 'face' have a touch of flesh colour in it?

Love the foggy look to the helmets.
