(Edited to add '15mm' as this was key info!)

Looking to see if anyone has any tips for things I have missed! I have a big 15mm Early Henrician English army with bills, bows, demilancers, Border horse etc, and a fair amount of French or general continental units too (landsknechts etc). Now I am thinking of putting together a Scots army and some terrain for it to fight on.

Questions:
1) Anyone know of any good 15mm options for Scots pikemen? I know of Alternative Armies' single variant. I have also spotted some Khurasan 'Welsh/Borders' spearmen in their WotR range that might do the job, especially if I can replace spears with longer pikes. But no-one really seems to do a variety of Scottish pikemen for the early 16th century. Anyone know of any options?#

2) Scots highlanders at Flodden - anyone know any good models? I might end up getting some Gallowglass, maybe by Khurasan, or the Donnington New Era ones, as I like their ranges.

3) I am going to get a Peal Tower from Magister Militum to model the little forts of the Borders where the Scots tended to fight. Anyone got any tips on what houses looked like around there in the early 16th century? I've seen Highland huts of that period and later and they were pretty 'primitive' but get the feeling the Borders might have been a different style. Do you think thatch, or tiles? Any broadly similar to more southern English cottages (which I have), or something quite different.
If different, anyone know where someone sells them?

My armies:
- Henry VIII's army (WIP) 15mm
- Ancient Germans (28mm)
- Ancient Belgae (Gauls with German allies) (28mm)
- Massilian Greeks (Greeks and Gallic mercenaries/subjects) (28mm)
- A few EI Romans (28mm)
- Handful of WW2 British (15mm)
- A load of old 1993-1999ish Warhammer Orcs and Goblins

What scale are you think of Orkius?

For a blast of inspiration in any scale I would head over to Stuart's brilliant Army Royal Blog here:

Warning, prepare to have your mind blown!

Sorry, stupidly I omitted to say it is 15mm I am doing!

Yes Atheling, I am a follower of Stuart's project and find it very useful and inspiring!

If I was doing 28mm then I would go with Pete's Flags' models, which I have seen on the blog, but alas the range for 15mm is (even) more limited.

A project near to my own heart Ockius.

Have a look at QRF Medieval Scots Flodden packs currently in hiatus but they should be available again shortly.  They have just moved premises.  They will fit well enough with khurasan.  I have some somewhere and will take a couple of pics and post them here.  Lots of variety in most packs.

Someone does make the 15mm buildings you want I just cannot remember who at the mo'.  Buildings tended to be stone built.

Good luck with it.

Ah, I am glad to hear that the QRF ranges will be back! I went on there looking last night and found dead links, and remembered reading something about them selling off some ranges so I thought I had missed the chance, so it's good to hear they will be back.

I have QRF demilancers (really like them), Border Horse (pretty nice) and kerns (good, a little small compared to my other stuff), so I will definitely try some of their Scots when they're back.

Not stupid, I kind of guessed anyway, I just wanted to be sure.

It's hard not to!

I'm no expert when it comes to 15mm but there are a thread here on LAF that may be of use( ???):

https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=57069.0

Also Ray's Don't Throw a 1 blog (if memory serves Ray put together a large Flodden era game):
https://onelover-ray.blogspot.com/search?q=flodden

There are also a few Flodden Scots threads on TMP:
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=400983
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=293920

That's about all my google foo could muster I'm afraid.

A neglected work in progress and not all variants are shown.  It will give you an idea all the same.

By design nobles were sculpted to be bigger than their followers. Highlanders first, then the Lowland troops.

Atheling - thanks, those links were handy and I found a few models I didn’t know about. For example it seems Viking Forge sell some old Asgard models that the UK firm Alternative Armies don’t stock (despite them having 90% of the range).

OB - thanks. Our paths often seem to cross on these Renaissance threads! Those QRF look good so I will keep an eye out for when they come back on sale. They’re excellent value too.

No probs. Good luck with the ongoing search.

No bother Ockius, they do indeed.  BTW, if you want pavises Museum do nice ones in packs of 8.  They are self standing and fit with the QRF figures.
