Kyoushuneko or Badger 3D - anyone tried them?

Hi all,

I've just come across these on ebay. They look very nice but I'm still a bit wary of 3D printed stuff! There is also the age-old compatibility problem (they do 28mm and 32mm versions). Has anyone tried them?

They're 3D printed, so really it all comes down to the printer.

What kind of printer?  What kind of resin? What print resolution?  etc.

The printer will be able to scale stuff up or down at request normally.  For stuff like this I'd suggest going over to Etsy instead of eBay - as you can see picture reviews of stuff, meaning you can normally see what kind of quality people are receiving from the various printers.

A 3D print could be anywhere from:
-Poorly calibrated machine printing quickly in cheap FDM/thread...
-Perfectly calibrated machine printing slowly in expensive/nice resin...

So it's entirely up to the printer.  Now, I have discovered very quickly that many 3D sculpts are not very gaming/miniature friendly, so I try to find companies or designers who actually print their stuff at playable scale.  A lot of 3D sculpts are designed like art...with details or components that simply do not scale well when printed smaller.  I've had some 3D printed miniatures where the details were so fine they broke if you glanced at them sideways...mainly because the 3D sculpt was probably intended for larger use, etc.

Kyoushuneko is just the sculptor so as mentioned it will just depend on who's printing them and how.

Yeah some 3D sculptors tend to sculpt stuff in very realistic proportions. The Kyoushuneko stuff is pretty chunky (at least the dwarves) so well suited to gaming with. I've printed them using an FDM printer so if the seller is using resin they will look better.

Thanks everybody, that is all really helpful. So I suppose what I need to know then is how good/compatible are the Badger 3D versions, or does anyone recommend a tried and tested alternative (perhaps as suggested from Etsy)? It sounds like otherwise it is a bit of a lottery!

You can always poke around and see what feedback is like, etc.  Check out reviews from other buyers, etc.  Some 3D sculptors whore out their licenses and you can find 10-15 different shops selling the same thing on Etsy, so you find the best reviewed one with the best pictures (and the most acceptable price).

Because 3D printing is so varied, I've seen the same model, same scale go for $4.50 from one seller, to $24.50 from another seller, etc.  Just depends on the quality and how proud that printer is of their product.
