Sci Fi corridors and rooms to print?
« on: 26 July 2022, 12:44:45 PM »
Hi,
I am searching for some D and D type game boards or printable "maps" to create a space ship or space station for a little side game I have planned to play solo. I do have a growing collection of sci fi figures and would like to play out a scenario but dont (can't!) want to make the scenery which would be too time consuming.
I seem to remember a long time ago one of the wargames magazines provided some sheets to copy and stick onto foamboard or card... probably when Space Hulk first came out! Has anyone a source where something similar could be printed out?
I havent yet decided on a ruleset so Stargrave may have to be acquired... also despite spending a small fortune on 9th edition I have yet to try 40K out but I suspect that they will not be much good for a skirmish?
Thanks for any pointers-scince fiction gaming is pretty new to me and so I am floundering a bit.

DriveThru RPG has loads of floorplans to print out. Everything from corridors to whole spaceships. Search for paper terrain

Mantic's Starsaga is basically D&D in space, and has cardboard room and corridor pieces. It comes with figures, however, and is expensive.

Battle Systems is works a look as well. They do Core Space, but you should be able to still get the terrain packs from them. I'm sure they used to do PDFs of some of their stuff.

You're welcome :)

I bought some Fat Dragon dungeon PDFs a few years ago. I printed them on paper and glued them to mountboard to provide some strength.

I did the same with one of the Traveller Scout floorplans, which I seem to remember scaling up to work with 28mm.

The big advantage with paper is that it's nice and easy to store, the downside is the lack of the third dimension :(

I use the Loke Battlemats (https://lokebattlemats.store/) "The Giant Book of Sci-Fi Battle Mats" for my 5 Parsecs From Home campaign along with Paizo's Starfinder flip mats. Paizo (https://paizo.com/) also do sci-fi tile sets for spaceship corridors, space stations and the like.
Might be worth a look, for inspiration if not for purchase?

As others have said Drivethru rpg is a great source.

But in my opinion these are some of the best for your needs.

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/5371/Heroic-Maps/subcategory/10143_22733/SciFi

Like their Orbital station series, which incidentally are on sale at the moment.

Duh. My apologies. I thought you were looking for 3D prints.

For the flat maps I second the Heroic Maps stuff.

Starfinder flip mats are worth a look.

The problem with the ones I have is that they come folded. The thickness of the carboard, combined with the coating to allow whiteboard markers to be used, unfortunately means they don't really want to sit flat :(

I have a chunk of polycarbonate sheet, 600mm x 900mm (2ft x 3ft), which I lay over the mats to keep them flat. Bought originally to do the same job for  board game boards that fold to fit in the box.

Bought online a few years back for £20 - £25 delivered ... so probably about £30 these days!

I would second the Loke battle mats. I use some for our D&D games (where I don't want to drag around a ton of terrain), and they have been well received.
