'Conquistador' inspiration needed
« on: 18 August 2022, 09:54:34 AM »
I'm after a bit of inspiration

I really like the Foundry Conquistador figures but am unable to find any Aztecs/Inca that I like -  that are a comparable size and sculpting to the Copplestone Conquistors.

I have thought about using Copplestones High Adventure Brazilian Indians for skirmish games against the 16th Centuries Spanish or Foundry Copplestone scupted Darkest Africa figures for West African Tribes to take on Portuguese Explorers - (again using the Foundry Conquistadors)

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Lucid Eye do some very nice South American types in their 'Savage Core' range.

Both ideas sound good to me. The Eureka colonial Portugese/amazon tribes also match well size wise if you wanted to explore the Brazil idea

The Assault Group's Aztec range is great and quite broad:

The Assault Group Aztecs:

That also have a very fine (and broad) Tlaxacalan rage should you wish for help for the Spanish...

Building tangentially on Cubs Savage Core suggestions, Conqusitadors seem to stumble across lost worlds all the time in pulp literature so you could also look to the primates and cavemen if you fancied a dash of the fantastical.

The Copplestone Tupi and Botocudo are ideal for the Brazil wood war,  you can also raid the savage core minis and the gringo 40 ranges for tribal types,  all are nice minis.  I did Brazil games a good few years ago,  think French Indian wars with cannibals😁

Thanks the ideas....

I have got some samples of the TAG Minis but they are not as big an chunky WF ones and I do not think I can do the just with the a paint brush -  they are fine figures though.

I never actually considered the lost word idea...I was too 'fixated' on the historical but I will look into it.

I'm only going to be collecting small forces - probably based on Pikemans Lament,  Lion Rampant or TMWWBKs rules and points.

I was concerned that I would need 'thousands' of Tupi or whatever to contend with Spanish but with recycling,  the 'lost world' element - perhaps some Conquistadors rebels, it may be 'do-able'

Well, if you did Pikeman's lament you'll never end up with Thousands of Tupi :-P
I have no idea on historical composition, but at first thought I'd field them as a mix of commanded shot (Archers, blow pipes, etc) and clansmen (blokes with those big clubs)

I would also suggest the Old Glory 'Hollywood' Cannibals from their pirate range, but the Foundry Conquistadors will likey dwarf them

(On that note, the Foundry figures are a good match for the old Warhammer Pizzaro's Lost Legion if you want or  need to add crossbows or pikes. Long OOP but they do show up on eBay, and don't seem to be as overpriced as some )

You also have Gringo 40s miniatures of aztecs and mayans and they are on the bigger side.

Also worth looking at the new Artizan designs renaissance spanish figures. They probably are on the same size as the foundry ones.

Further to the above -  does anyone know if a manufacturer (UK only please) who makes 'mastiff'  type war dogs - either armoured or not.

I have found reference to Freebooter Minis but they seem to be unavailable now.

Thanks a lot
