« on: October 15, 2009, 07:27:20 PM »
Just seen this posted on another site.Might be of interest to some of you.A new magazine for Fantasy and Sci-Fi miniatures.

http://www.the-ancible.com/

Just placed my order for the first issue. This might help fill the gap that Harbinger left behind.

Oh yes,

I'm still missing some nice real paper like "Harbinger".

I will watch out to get a copy at crisis in antwerp, where usually a lot of the latest newbies are available for "continentals" like me.

Cheers Thomas

Brave move to bring out a paper magazine in these e-zine days. Best of luck to them, and £4's not that bad a price. Might well look into it.

What does 'ancible' mean??

Good question! I couldn't find it in my Oxford English dictionary  :?

It's probably a made-up name, but I'd like to know for sure.

Another interesting intersection between communication and technology at work in this text is a human-created device properly called "the Philotic Parallax Instantaneous Communicator." Commonly referred to as "Ancible," a name derived from the novels written by Ursula K. Le Guin in the late twentieth century, this device can transmit messages between galaxies with no lapse of time; it is, in other words, an instantaneous mode of communication, one which hearkens to the draw and desire of technologies such as the ‘real-time' communication in Web-based chat rooms and MUD/MOO environments.

Apparntly its from the Ender's Game series.

In Ursula Le Guin, it is an 'Ansible' with an 's', but I guess that they don't want the magazine confused with the SF News zine of the same name

Ah! A series I've always meant to read, but......  :(

It's a pretty good SciFi name, then, even if fools like me don't get the meaning  lol

The thing with that is that if a magazine shows off stuff its going to gof or the good bits and if people can see those they might not decide to but it..Its a damned if you do damned if you don't type idea..

Delivery News
November 5th, 2009 by kenny

Firstly let me say a big thanks to all those of you out there who have had the faith to order your copies of The Ancible. After a couple of bumps on the road the magazine has gone to the printer and I have a expected delivery date to me at Ancible Central of next Thursday (12th November). On arrival I will be getting the team mobilised to ship out your copies either Thursday or Friday by fast pigeon.

Thanks for you patience and I hope you like what we have put together and continue to support us as we move onwards towards Issue 2

Kenny

This looks excellent. Harbinger got into WHSmith though, I certainly hope this does as it doesn't look like a 'zine I want to miss.

As I understand it there are no plans to distribute through Comag, etc but they will distribute through Simply miniatures into games shops.

Smith's Distribution is prohibitively expensive for a new magazine (one of the reasons Battlefront bought WI, to get into Smiths).

well I had given in and was going to order a copy to test for myself, but is wondering why their shop is set out like it is, do they charge p&p on top of the cost of the magazine, why is a 6 issue subscription the same cost as buying the issues individually, or are you saving on postage? which i can't tell as they don't appear to be telling you either way. Damn i'm grumpy considering it's the first day of my week off.
