Painting mongols

Hi all,

I've just invested in a bunch of Copplestone's Mongols..thought that they'd come in handy in all sorts of places.

Anyway, I've had it in my head that by the 1920's Mongol clothing was pretty drab - lots of browns and greys, but looking around I see quite a few people use fairly bright colours for their horde.

Does anyone know where I can find (on the internet) an easy colour guide?

On the downside, I have a bunch of mongol horse archers bought and painted for a never completed WAB project.....and I thought that these would pad out my Copplestone mongols......but boy, are these older figs (from Steve Barber If I remember rightly) small compared to Copplestone's.

I came across refs to Chahar mongols liking red while Buryat mongols liked blue. I'm using brick red long coats/robes and dark blue for my 15mm and have a smattering of Medieval Mongols mixed in for variety. Bows had many advantages over muzzle loading black powder weapons, but not of course vs a more modern breech loader. As for bows - Tartar and Mongol cavalry are photographed ca. 1900 with bows while the Tibetan honour guard sent to Ungern-Sternberg in 1919/20 used their bows in a stealth attack to rescue the Bogdo Khan from house arrest.
