Not a very good picture as my lighting seems to be on the fritz but here's a big guy with a big bronze shield!

Thank you all!

I must admit I prefer kitbashing to painting, it's been easier for me to imagine how parts fit together than figuring out a color scheme.

Today it's a rough & ready bodyguard!

Same here love kitbashing but guess painting is then the logical next step although not my favourite one. So quite often going for quick painting when painting the masses.

100% agree I try to keep it simple on painting sticking to 3-5 colors

Nice work! The Frostgrave demon head works quite well for an orc, now that you have shaved off the horns! I hadn’t thought of using the demons that way, but now you have me considering picking up a box…

Thank you! I started it with Bolg, replacing the horns with hair and found it to be a good way to make orcs with this kit.

I don't mean to be harsh, but I think you should stop painting the eyes, to my mind it's detracting from the overall paintjob, and when they're all ranked up on the table you won't notice the eyes anyway. Let the wash suggest the eyes and leave it at that.
Solid work so far.

Yeah it's been tough making the eyes come out as not goofy, this next batch may be the last time I do it.

Do you think it's cause the eyes are too bright?

Orctober is almost over, and I need a unit of archers to accompany Bolg, so here's 2!

I ommitted the eyes and I think it does look better.

I like the archers, they look very businesslike!

Eyes on 28mm figures are always a challenge (at least for me). Back when I still painted the eyes, I followed the approach I read in a painting guide (I think by Kevin Dallimore). I worked from a black primer coat and essentially painted the eyes first (white dashes, with a black circle in the middle), then used black to tidy up each eye (get the sizes consistent, etc). Once that was done, I painted the face around the eyes (and everything else on the figure).

More recently I abandoned painting eyes, except on large figures (giants, dragons, whatever) where each eye is pretty big. For smaller fig, I found getting the eyes lined up looking the same direction was a pain, and most of my paint jobs were fine with “implied eyes”.

On my orcs, I have gone part way back - I put flesh wash in the eye sockets, paint the orc flesh colour areas around the eyes, and it winds up looking like the orcs have sinister pink or red eyes, without needing much effort…

Thanks Pattus! Yes I think I'll keep to bigger units getting dedicated eyework and go eyes to face.

Finishing up Orctober with two more archer orcs and a bonus archer officer!

Some say this gilded warrior is a corrupt elf,  others that beneath the helmet is a wicked human, yet those who have heard the voice swear to hear an orc.

Who shall know; all that matters is that this officer follows Bolg, son of Azog.

Took some group shots that I'll upload in the next two posts.

What's after Orctober? Well I might make 5 more archers, and some trolls to round it out. Afterwards I might work on some Goblintown force.

Nice job on all three of those! I enjoy the back-stories you provided for some of your figures, it brings them to life.
