Fight for Plancenoit 1815
« on: 30 October 2022, 08:37:43 PM »
A few weeks ago I played Crisis on the right: Battle for Plancenoit 1815 a boardgame from White Dog Games. There was a moment in the game that I thought would transfer well to the tabletop with figures.

Anyway, I played that figure game today and have put up a post on the blog, covering the conversion and brief outline of play.

Wonderful, thanks for sharing it. I have a bunch of unpainted epics that I hope to get through someday.

One of the things I noted about Plancenoit, when I took my two sons around the Waterloo battle fields in 2014, was that it most definitely was NOT the snooker table surface that you see in most wargame recreations.  The church is on a mound and the ground slightly to the north and east with two farms on it, is - taken together with the church - quite commanding.  However, the biggest surprise was that the lanes around the church (on the French sides) are often sunken, with many of the houses slightly raised up - one or two would probably have required scaling ladders to assault.  And the centre of the village, in front of what is now a brasserie, is a bowl that looks deceptively shallow.....until you have to walk up the sides!  It made me really appreciate the task facing the Prussians that afternoon.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

Thanks,
Very interesting, nothing quite like visiting a battlefield to appreciate the lay of the land . In the boardgame, line of sight nuances are only partially represented.
