Hello and thanks,

SJWi : Historicaly, Spartacus army fight often raw legionaries, this is the reason why Slaves army win a lot of battles  At the same moment, some legions of Lucullus fight in Orient and other legions of Pompée in Hispania.

Nikko, I should add that I wasn't trying to have maximum historical accuracy more a fun, balanced game with a historically plausible basis.

I agree with you.

Nikko, I should add that I wasn't trying to have maximum historical accuracy more a fun, balanced game with a historically plausible basis.  I wanted a bigger game than I normally play to cater for several players and I simply didn't have enough Roman units to go around, hence my "mercenaries". I also wanted to field "raw" legionaries as (a) I think they are historically accurate for this and (b) under TTs Legionary units are very powerful and I wanted to downgrade them somewhat . Despite the big Roman victory I was pleased with the result as being a good game that all the players enjoyed.

Early on, I am pretty sure they used mercs to fight, especially when it was seen as a "local problem".

I think the historians of Rome tend to overlook the City of Marble's usage of mercenaries, because that would not jive with their own self-image.  Of course, instead of mercenaries it could just be levied vassals, auxiliaries, and local "tough guys".  Either way, I am doubtful the initial escape and pursuers were against actual Legionaries, even up through the battles with Glabor.

Fun looking project. Would be a lot of fun to paint all the variants of soldiers ranging from the basic type to the gladiator gear to the stolen roman equipment look. :)

They look quite sharp! I like the small variations in the sculpts- a uniform army, but not identical clones.

Nice work!  I think those Copplestone-sculpted Caesarian Romans are still some of the best out there.  They make up yet another chunk of my "will get to someday" reserve of unpainted lead.
