Catalogue of all current 28mm WW1 ranges?
« on: November 11, 2022, 10:37:01 PM »
Does such a thing exist, and if so, could someone direct me towards it?  Looking at figures for all participants and all periods of the War.

I would also be interested in learning of any business that manufactures "proper" trench systems - ie with the trenches sunk into polystyrene or similar blocks, rather than elevated plastic/resin mouldings.  (Again, I emphasise that I am interested in 28mm only, not any other scale/size.)

After the excellent review of Through the Mud and the Blood by Alex Sotheran (Storm of Steel Wargaming), I am seriously considering very late war forces for the Western Front, but I want "proper" figures - eg a British platoon with Lewis, bomber/trench cleaner, rifle grenadier and rifle-and-bayonet sections.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I’ll kick it off.

Eureka: Turks, Imperial, Camel Corps, British in Tropical kit, Serbians, Bulgarians.

Empress: Early War British and Germans. Russians. Tropical British from the Jazz Age Range.

Brigade Games: British, US, Germans, French for the Western Front (1916-18). British, KAR, Indian Army, German schutztruppen and Askaris for Africa, Belgians. Turks, Asia Korps, Australians, Kiwis, Arab irregualrs for Palestine and the ME. Austrians and Italians.

Brigade Models: Early War Belgians.

Wargames Atlantic: Late War Germans and French. British coming sometime.

Footsore: Early War Brits and Germans.

Copplestone. German Askari and useable Russians, Indian Army and British from the Back of Beyond Range.

There’s a heap more but I’m just killing time waiting for my daughter to get out of the hairdresser.

Actually I just realised that a sticky already exists for this but it probably doesn’t have the Eureka Serbs and Bulgarians.

I remember someone had a complete listing and shared it here on LAF.
Perhaps doing some searching on the site may be in order.

Obviously Great War Miniatures do an extensive range and IMHO far and away the best late War British and German figures.

TSS do trenches sunk into polystyrene tiles

They're pretty basic but not ridiculously expensive and do the job.

They also do (did?) Custom tiles; they made the 'pitch' for our WW1 Subbuteo game donks back....

Brilliant! :-* :-*

Of course I think the established rule for any public Subbuteo game post 1980s is that at least one player should be wearing a Dukla Prague away kit.  ;)

Indeed.

It was seriously good fun, even before the frankly barking reenactors got involved. 28mm metal figures on custom made Subbuteo style bases - lots of worries beforehand about broken fingers and/or damage caused by flying figures but other than occasionally having to collect the ball (not easy with a raging hangover) there were no issues with play.

Wargaming and football. It doesn't get any better.

Now you just need to pray that the next Salute isn't held in Qatar.
