It's sheer madness! And lots of fun.
I have 202 infantry units in my AWI collection (in process, not painted) and 20+4 cavalry regiments (the +4 are cuirassier for SYW style hypotheticals battles using AWI figures) plus plenty of artillery, command, casualties, and throngs of civilians along with carts and wagons and the beasts to pull them. Totals over 5,000 figures. My regiments are only 18 or 24 figures for infantry, though, and 12 - but matching dismounts for the 20 historically existing units (some only at company strength but what the heck) - for the cavalry.
While my collection in progress is a bit over the top, The King's collection might be more along the lines of a volcanic eruption. And it isn't even a gaming collection, just an overriding passion it seems. And all I can say, is more power to him. (yes, I know King's Mountain references an AWI battle but I figure with this collection, we can call him The King!
