She's a nice sculpt, good depth of colour in that purple.

Thank you! She could be any kinda magician, but she came with a base with zombie hands, thats how she became a necromancer :) I do not know where she is from, in the local club there are monthly bitz markets, and some 3d printer guys also come to sell their stuff- who knows whart is what range, I just buy it if I like it.
Purple is one of my favourite colours regarding oil paints, oils in general are more vibrant than acrylics and for purple it really stands out.

Clearly! The practice shows :D - do you have a particular technique you follow, or do you just wing it as you go?

I base the banner white acryl then paint it black, leaving only a white spot where the image will be (painting dark onto white is far easier than the other way around). Then I paint the picture with artist oil- there is no clear recipe here, you have to be careful blending together the bright and the black parts, but if anything, artist oil is ideal for blending. Otherwise it is just painting in the classical 2D meaning of the word. The inspirations come from the 8th ed Vampire Counts army book, also sometimes from heavy metal album cover/artworks.

Thank you!

Also, five more standards, this time for my zombie units. Why do zombies need standards when they are mindless creatures no concept for the morale and heraldry? Good question. My guess: while in battle they are driven by their hunger towards the enemy, in marching time a magical banner might help to hold the horde together and lead them where their masters intend them to be at.

Beautiful work!

I think you’re on the right track with the idea that the banners provide a mystical focal point to coordinate the horde. The necromancer or greater undead leading the army has to devote attention to lots of things in battle and can’t direct each individual zombie, but they can direct the five zombies that carry the banners…

Blooming heck- those are absolutely marvellous! I love how the bright colours pop against the dark of the rest of the banner- and that’s quite apart from the skill to freehand all those. Very, very impressive  :-*

Your stuff is very impressive overall but those banners are astounding.

Eddie is easily recognised but the fact that you can actually read the text on all of them is amazing.

'Death is only the beginning' if I'm reading it right,?

Are the other images inspired by album covers too? The one second from right has a Blue Oyster Cult vibe.

I wanted something focal yet tried to avoid simply pushing skeletons into traditional heraldry as it is too Empire/40k-y. So my main inspiration came from band T-shirts and the 8th ed VC Army book, where these "something bright on a black base"-stlye heraldry are a main theme. I did not try to replicate a concrete album cover (save Eddie, who, as him being the most iconic zombie character and me being a great Iron Maiden fan, I wanted to include), I save that for another project, these imagery of graves and skeletons might match some of them but they are basically generic horror clichés some depressive artist painted in 1720 and the rest just keep stealing from each other :) The second banner from the right, together with the text ("When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth") comes from the Dawn of the Dead movie posters, call me a heretic but the 2004 Dawn of the Dead is the best zombie movie of all.
