Fun With AWI Flags
« on: 04 January 2023, 07:46:39 AM »
With apologies to Sheldon and Amy!!!

I finally got around to straightening out my AWI flags.
These all have regiments awaiting them.
I just need to affix them to the flagbearers of said regiments.

The hold up has been my procrastinating. I need to add finishing touches to most of the bases.
Mainly static grass.
It's much easier to apply static grass, when flags are not in your way.
So, I made the flags and put them aside until I began a "static grass frenzy".

These are GMB, Flags of War, Adolfo Ramos and quite a few of my own creations.
Most of these can be found in my AWI Flags folder on this Forum.

The finials are from Front Rank and really dress up the flags.
There are 5 or 6 on a strip.
Many moons ago, I split a large Front Rank order with a buddy of mine.
I bought 100 of the finial strips, which totaled either 5 or 6 hundred finials!!

Hey! I've got the F&I War, the War of 1812, the Mex-Am War and the ACW to flag!

Anyway, here is what I have accomplished as far as flags go.
I've got the GMB German (Hessians) flags that still need to be made.

Like everything else....I'll get to it!

Hey 15's. Didn't I send you my flags file? Any updates?

Very cool - its like a carnival!

I think that the US flags would cause some confusion to viewers of ‘Fun with Flags’

You most certainly did send me your AWI flags - lots and lots and lots of them and I've started at sorting them but it has been disruptive time.  Disneyland in September (wife's niece), came back sick and then had to work with getting a backyard pergola installed and managed to hurt myself, then came Thanksgiving, then sick again, then Xmas and New Years.  Only now hoping to get back to that "guilty me" project.  Will take some time to sort out because there is a lot of duplication to work through.  But definitely not forgotten - or that you want the sorted work sent back your way.

Where are the flags here on LAF you mentioned?

Sorry, but I never posted my "flag file" here. I was mistaken.

And no, I don't need anything back.
As you can see I have it under control. LOL LOL!!

Several people have asked how I get the flags to hold their shape.

My secret ingredient for getting the flags to hold their shape is a Pringles Potato Chip Snack Can foil top.

The foil on the Pringles can is heavier than standard Reynolds Wrap. It's thicker and will hold it's shape forever.
Since the foil is red on one side, I line up a bunch of them and hit them with spray can of white paint.

Then I cut the foil about a millimeter smaller than the flag and place it in the middle of the two halves.
After applying the glue, I shape it. It will dry that way.

OK, that's the secret to wavy flags.

Some methods don't use foil and produce excellent flags.
This is just my own way of doing it.
