Great work on these, superb painting.   You have shamed me into realising I need to finish my Infamy project!

David, lovely job on the Germans. I have a whole army of them stashed away since the Foundry Christmas sale in I think January 2021. You may have inspired me to get them onto the painting table.

Thanks for all the kind comments  :)

The shields are all from LBMS, I really like the Roman designs, but am not convinced by the Germanic ones - they seem a little over fussy to me, and I would prefer a bit more contrast in the colours, but its a lot better than having to hand paint them!  :D

SJWi - you only had yours in the queue since2021? You lightweight  ;), mine have been queued up since about 1998!! lol
Digits - dont worry, I started this II project when the rules first came out, so I'm as guilty as you  :)

Last nights efforts were the youth of the tribe - javelin armed skirmishers.

There are plenty more hairy types to follow, but I also need to paint some shields up, having run out of LBMS transfers, which will slow completion down a bit.

The last batch of warriors for a little while as I finish off a few shields.
A mix of Foundry and BTD again.

I have about two dozen more painted, but in need of shields and basing, so off to make some tufts and a shield production line.

David, excellent. I really like your flesh tone. Can I ask what colours/manufacturer you use?

Thanks, and thats a good question!

Actually, I have used several different flesh tones on these. It was my first attempt at painting full bodies and torso's so I started with the Foundry flesh triad (just the bog standard one) but found the tones just a bit too pink, and the base too dark for my liking.

I looked a few 'recipes' up on painting tutorials, and next tried Vallejo Tan as a base with the 1st highlight of Vallejo Dwarf Flesh,, the 2nd highlight being Vallejo Elf Flesh. This gave a rather reddish overall colour, but the layer transitions were much smoother. The BTD figure with what looks like sunburn is one of these.

Next I tried Vallejo Light Brown as a base, 1st highlight 50/50mix of Light Brown and Sunny Skintone (Vallejo), Second highlight is the 1st highlight +Sunny Skintone 80%, and if you want, a final highlight of pure Sunny Skintone.

This last mix is the one I settled on, it gives a nice warm tone, probably a bit too 'tanned' for Germanic tribesmen, but I like it  :)

You can also substitute the Tan with Light Brown and use Dwarf and Elf Fleshes as highlights if you want a slighter lighter overall look.

David, thanks for the advice.  My attempts look quite dark.  Can I just check what you say about the 2nd highlight. Do I interpret it as 20% light brown and 80% sunny skintone?  Finally, do you have the Vallejo "code" for the light brown.

I think I will be visiting my local games shop on Saturday!

It's 20% of the light brown/sunny skintone 50/50 mix and 80% sunny skintone, so you are just lightening the first highlight with more sunny skintone. The %'s are a rough eyeball so try it out before committing, and keep the pant thin. Light Brown code is 929, Sunny is 845.
Good luck  :)

The tribesmen and youths look excellent! Thanks for sharing your skin tone recipe, too, may just try something similar. I’m looking forward to seeing the next units you paint, both the Romans and the Germans are inspiring.

Latest batch of tribesmen, just a few more to go now until I have completed the figures that just needed finishing off.

I'm trying out a white background, but seem to be getting a pinkish hue - so more experimentation required.
