Great work, very unusual to see that modelled at all and never so well. Looking forward to the rest of the camp.

I don't want to 'hijack' your posts here - but I used 2 1sT Corps Round Tents and the roof section of their longer tent, to make a Captain's Tent for my camp.
Feel free to knab the idea!
Cheers

Thank you guys =). Excellent reference picture there, ive seen the one with a reproduction from a re-enactment group, cannot remember the group but it was a european based one, it looked like it was even working!.

Ive got an mdf cart base to use like you say with putty on top but im now thinking the mdf might might be a bit crude, definetly needs new wheels they are a bit small and square edged. Spellcrow do an excellent pack of different sized wooden planks which might do for the frame and then maybe add some more accurate wheels. Or just convert one of the Perry carts!

Your not hijacking dont worry, im a big fan of your captains tent has been a massive inspiration. I check your blog all the time to see if there is anything new hopefully soon ;)

Is the round tent 1st corps i cannot find it on their site?

Hello again - sorry nothing new on the blog for ages - but will be working on Swiss sometime this year - I have promised myself!
On the round tents - my mistake, they are ones from Magister Militum (old Ian Weekly models) - made of light resin and Ok with a bit of fine sanding to create a smooth surface.

Brilliant will look forward to those Swiss!

Ahh i've got the magister round tent and i really like the shape but it was so bumpy and holey, needed a lot of work and even then mine is very rough. Yours looks super smooth like a different tent, how did you prep it?

Here is the mdf base
This is a great idea for a little vignette! If I may drop my 2 cents. You can spread a thin layer of putty on top of the mdf cart platform. Ideally green stuff (or procreate) + a rigid putty like Milliput or Magic Sculpt. The combination makes the best of two worlds and you have a putty that sticks but not like chewing gum and also can be spread thin without being crumbly. Spread a thin layer. You can smooth it out with a make shift roller like an x acto body, in order to not have the putty sticking on the roller, use a little piece of baking paper on top of the putty layer. Once the layer is spread and smoothed out, wait about 15 min and with a needle start drawing the texture of wooden planks. For the portable oven, I would look around the house for something that could serve as a base to build upon. Some kind of deodorant cap. If there is nothing available some crumbled aluminum foil can serve as a base. Lay over a layer of putty (the same mix as before). Make the basic dome shape, leave it to set up and then you can come back and cut away the opening.
The only demanding part are the wheels. You could take the wheels of some kind of canon. I think there are some available Perry sprues but Im not 100% sure. There is also the option to scratch build them with plasticard.
I have a step by step here about how to make an aspis. I know its something different but some of the techniques apply in this case too. Like using the dremel and a needle to cut plastic rings fast.

Thank you Captain Harlock those are excellent tips =), ive got some miliput so will have a go mixing it with the greenstuff. I think scratchbuilt wheels are beyond me but seen some spare ones on ebay that should work well. Looking forward to having a go at this now!

I like the mobile oven idea. Hope it gets built.

Maybe this was answered and I am being dense. But who makes the round tents in the first few photos. Is it Purple Lion creation? Or are they scratch builds?
