Almost-Cthulhu Sculpt
« on: October 27, 2009, 12:25:11 AM »
Did this as a demo for one of my classes - it started as a waterline Cthulhu figure, and evolved into something else.  No wings, and orange instead of green.  Aside from that I tried to stay true to the description, but interpret it as loosely as possible.

Since it was this board that got me into Lovecraft (and gave me the desire to make my own Cthulhu miniature) I thought I might post it here, seeing as Halloween is rapidly approaching.

I've got a few more pics (higher res) on my blog, if anyone wants to see more:

Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

Wow, that looks disturbingly cool, but in a good way. Some mighty nice work there, thanks for sharing.
We haul ours to kick theirs.

All the tentacles all curled up like that and the way you painted it makes the whole mass seem like hundreds of eyes and mouths. Very disturbing and an excellent sculpt!

Thanks so much, guys!  The painting was done by drybrushing cheap acrylic with a bristle brush on top of black spray paint.

There are more pics (as well as some process/decision talk) here:

http://curiousoldlibrary.blogspot.com/2009/10/cthulhu.html

I tried to do a link-within-a-picture to higher res versions on this board, and couldn't figure out how to given the html restrictions, so I figured the link was the best way.  There are seven pics in all, I think.

The mini beside it is 1:72/20mm, which I the scale I usually build to.

I have almost no process pics - sorry!  But I do have this one.  I used aluminum wire, twisted, to make the armature - two loops across each other making a big round x for the body, and the arms coming off to the side.  The basic shape is aluminum foil, and most of the rest is Super Sculpey.  Teeth are wood, eyes are wood and epoxy.
