Great to see these old school miniatures, but it is the paint jobs that really make them pop. Lovely work, particularly with the freehand.

Is Chuck actually wearing a cape?  lol

Yes he is and it's bloody fabulous! That just captures the RT era for me, the excess and sheer "why not"-Ness of it all.

And it doesn't hurt that it's a cracking paint job either. 8)

I love everything about this thread! The outstanding paintjobs of course (these are consistently beautiful - dunno how happy you are with them, but I'd be over the moon), but also the minis, the nostalgia, and most of all... a dread with a cape  :-*

Thanks very much guys!

sheer "why not"-Ness of it all.

That's so very much what I was thinking when I put that cape on him - I was looking at the remnants of the Praetor sprue and saw that the cutout looked like it'd just fit nicely over the motor at the back, and then... well, why not indeed!

It's awesome for sure! I've never seen one on a dread before, but it makes all kinds of 40K-sense  8)

Must be an interred capain or something...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

The cape came from a Praetor so I figure that's who's in there! The serial on the front was picked for him being the first dreadnought of the 23rd Chapter of the 13th Legion which I suppose makes him a 1st ed dread with a 2nd ed paintjob and relatively recently written Horus Heresy-era lore...

Something not power armoured for a change! I wanted a break after spending the best part of a month on that Dread, so here's one of Mark Copplestone's 1988 Commissars:

Three pigments for the body - a blue, yellow and red combined with black and white. Kind of a Zorn palette plus blue, I guess.

Great work! I love all of this thread! Especially the Dread, I have that one still in the 90s paint job I gave it as a teenager. I painted teeth on mine too (I think it was compulsory), although clearly I missed a trick by not giving mine a cape.

Great job on the commissar. I always loved Mark Copplestone's Citadel work!
