So far I sticked mostly to 28mm including the TYW. The lone exceptions so far were WW2 and Cold War gone hot both using Battlegroup rules. With the new Kickstarter I have been “persuaded” to finally start with By Fire and Sword - Pike and Shotte warfare in 15mm.

Never one for half measures I ordered a bit more than a starter Skirmisher force. Not everything has arrived yet, but I was eager to get started. On a blog I had seen a comparison shot of By Fire & Sword and Totentanz Miniatures. In particular the cavalry looked a bit weedy on that picture. However once I got the miniatures I was rather delighted. They make for a very fine first impression and scale up nicely, at least with some older Battlefront FoW figures. So now I just have to get used to painting something other than camo in 15mm.

Warboss, I see that the Kickstarter still has three days to go but they are shipping already? I don't "do" kickstarters much and found their page a bit confusing as to what you get for backing at the different levels. What did you pay for the force you received?

Thanks.

I’m always humming & hawing about pike and shot. Fire & Sword looks like great eye candy but would it work ok for ECW/TYW?

Yes, it would work - both 1st and 2nd edition. There are few 'Western' armies in the current setting, so despite the fact that game is made in Poland and have strong 'winged' hussars vibe, it can be play for other European conflicts in 17th century, not just Central and Eastern Europe.

By Fire and Sword have an ECW variant in the pipeline. They were plugging it in their videos just before Covid hit. There's a line of figures too. All now on the back burner. I wonder if they will ever see the light of day?

At some point, yes it will, as there are minis for it already. Any plans for army lists we had will have to be re-written for 2nd edition though, so not sure when that will be released.

Imperial Skirmish Force finished. They painted up nicely and would have been ready earlier if only for basing. Looking forward to painting some infantry next.

Thanks guys! I just finished my first infantry regiment with a colonel and a major to go along. The regiment can be set up as large or regular unit (the latter leaving a few musketeers on the side).
