Skirmish Rules for Sword fights
« on: August 22, 2024, 01:53:14 AM »
I'm looking for a set of rules that covers individual combat and is played on a grid. Searching this form hasn't brought up anything. I'm sure I read about them here and I thought I had saved the link to the site that sold them. I can't remember the name and they may have been a Fantasy set.

Any thoughts, recommendations?  Thanks for the help.

From memory several of the Roman gladiator rulesets are grid based and at the end of the day they are about "individual sword fighting", if a tad period specific. The Society of Ancients game is certainly grid based.

Melee by Steve Jackson Games? It uses a hex grid, and it's free, so you can't go wrong.

It's a great game!

The Fantasy Trip is another one, I think? Is it essentially the same game as Melee?

Melee is basically the combat system from the RPG The Fantasy Trip, but released as a game in its own right.

Yup: The Fantasy Trip is Melee + Wizards + additional background, monsters and skills, etc.

I suspected so - I mentioned it mostly because it may have been the name that fusilierdan had seen it under on here. Pretty sure tikitang had a thread with it in action.

I don't recall, but I doubt it...I had plans to do something with it but like most of my ideas they failed to materialise!
