Stunning! How do you do the shields :o ? Even the inside of them is marvelous. The wood-effect is first class!

Thanks all :)

@Rick F - the whole post-Roman/Arthurian period always feels like it suits a slightly faded, barren feel. It's a world leaving past glories behind, in transition to something else.

@ulverston - Victrix make very nice plastic kits. They don't quite have the character of the Footsore metal Romano-British, but the versatility and price point of the plastic is definitely a win.

@olivero - the designs on the shields are Little Big Men Studios shield transfers. They have a full range designed for Victrix sculpts, available on the Victrix website. The wood grain is just one of the Vallejo Xpress colour browns over wight bone primer - they're already nicely detailed wood shields.

Up next, two more builds from the Unarmoured Infantry set (one from the command sprue) to finish up this current batch of Arthurians:

Next up on the painting table.... all of these!

A mix from all the Victrix kits released so far - armoured, unarmoured and archers, along with a kit-bashed warlord and companions.

The Vallejo speed paints are looking good, do you highlight at all over the top or do multiple passes?

Cheers

The speed paints are only on the shields (and it's just one coat over primer) - the rest of the models are done the old fashioned way!

I have tried using the speed paints in a few ways though on some other minis. They're nice just over the primer coat, and also look good over a slapchop style preshade. Haven't tried highlighting over them yet though.

Speaking of armoured models, here's the first point of hearthguard - all straight builds from the Victrix Armoured Late Roman set. It's a slight shame that not every figure on the sprue has an option for a cloak, but I think there are enough ways to make them all look suitably Romano-British that it doesn't matter too much.

Beautifully painted figures! The cloak adds a nice, subtle touch to the figures. Would it be feasible for you to use green stuff to add additional cloaks? It would add some steps in the build process, but might be worth the effort to give that British touch to the force.

Thanks!

Sadly I don't trust my green-stuff abilities enough to try doing cloaks like that without ruining the underlying minis!

Some more progress over the last few days. A foot warlord, and another 4 archers. I've also ordered a box of Victrix's late Roman armoured cavalry, so some mounted hearthguard will follow in due course.

Fabulous, the figures are coming up a treat, liking the stripped spears also.

Nicely done. Might have to get a sprue or two of these and see how they fit with my Footsore Arthurians and early Saxons…

Do it!  ;)

Little bit of a photo dump for today's post, as I've been painting plenty but just not photographing!

First up, 4 more unarmoured warriors. All with variations on the late-Roman style patterned tunic:

Then another point of hearthguard:

And finally a pair of companions to accompany my warlord:
