What colour to drybrush over Olive Drab?

I wondered what highlight colour folks use on vehicles to drybrush over Olive Drab?  It is an odd colour, more grey than green. Perhaps because of the pigments used in the paint, adding white to lighten it doesn't seem to work for me, it goes a light grey, which looks unrealistic. In any event, the model I am working on is a large one and the Olive Drab was applied by spray can. So I would really like to use a colour straight from a pot so I can take my time and stay consistent (even though I may go over it with drybrush of different colours in places)
So any suggestions welcome?

OD is basically made from a mix of black and yellow ochre. I would therefore try lightening the base coat with a yellow ochre or a flesh colour.  The ochre will give you a brightish highlight and the flesh will give you dusty highlights.   If you don’t have a “non spray” olive drab it should be easy to source one, Vallejo make a couple, for example.  It doesn’t need to be an exact match as you are only using it for a drybrush.  Obviously trial this first….

I tend to use khaki for making lighter shades of earth-tone colours. Basically adding lighter dirt colours to dirt colours.

I use a light greyish green too. For some final highlights and to show scuff marks and paint wear I even use a very pale green, RAF Sky.

Bear in mind though that there are all kinds of OG/OD out there, some significantly lighter than others and you can utilise some to provide highlights.

This is my suggestion as well for any troops wearing OD cloth (and most other natural browns and greens) that could reasonably be a bit dusty or dirty.    With the caveat that I am a quick-and-dirty sort of painter.  I use a kakhi or light sand color for quick drybrushing on almost all my terrain structures as well.  Everything is dusty!


 For OD on shiny power armor or something clean, I'd go with a lighter shade of OD.
