That swarm/horde is looking mighty impressive! The glossy black especially turns them in Xenomorphs immediately.  8)

Glad to inspire, even though I was in turn inspired by McFonz and his alien horde; credit where it's due.
And the three of us probably increased sales of that particular sprue for Andy by a factor or two :D
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Ohh I like these immensely and I had something similar in mind for mine but not with the brownish highlights etc, mine are currently dry-brushed blue/silver over black but however please consider the idea stolen homaged for my Nids, my xenomorphs and my Kryomek  ;) :D

Excellent stuff

Guys, thank you so much for your kind comments. I am really pleased you like the Ork Scows (man I LOVE that descriptor!) and the Xeno Nids. Also, thank you to McFonz and Daeothar for the original inspiration behind those!

Hello everyone

I have been lamenting an old project. My first ever 'finished' project was many years ago and it was a Company of Space Marines I named the Brazen Guard. I sold them around 2012 I think, at a time when I thought I was leaving the hobby. Ha!! Such naievty!! What I do know is a dad bought them for his kid. If anyone has seen them since then do let me know :P

The paint scheme was appallingly straightforward. White spray, then painted silver and washed with several siennas. Done! I built them up from rescued models and salvaged parts. 3rd party heads and pads were also used. The basing was delightfully retro in hindsight - Woodland Scenics flock then my first use of static grass. I was happy. That was a good project. I hope they are okay out there.

A long time ago I was gifted some free Orruk Brutes my friend found hiding in their new place. Similarly I received a subscription from my pal that got me the limited edition Orruk model. Sooo I removed the most obvious Orky gubbinz and gave them Fantasy Ogre heads to create some brutal looking Ogryn Auxilia. I painted them close to the armour plated Trolls that storm Minas Tirith's gates in Return of the King. Like that scene, these boys do not muck about!

Forguff is a bleak moonlet covered in the ruined shell of some forgotten mega structure. The atmosphere is barely breathable and it's gravity brutally high for a standard baseline human. By the time it was rediscovered in the Great Crusade its human population could only be classified as Ogryn- small clans roaming the multiple layers of decaying steel and rock and fighting over the scant remaining resources. Only the strongest survive, clad in scavenged iron and armed with the crudest of melee weapons. The Munitorum employs them as brute shock troops, their feral aggression and direct nature making them perfect in this role. Even Ripper guns are considered too complicated for the Forguff Ogryn- their preferred weapons are large polearms that they gleefully use like demented hockey sticks, whooping with unbridled joy.

These are 5 'BruteGryn' of Forguff acting as auxilia for Flexberg forces fighting on Gethrika Prime.

They look great as a pack, mate. Really sinister! I also respect the hell out of repurposing minis that fall into your hands. I find it much more satisfying than buying specific things for a project. I hadn't actually thought of the Minas Tirith guards when I saw them before, but you're absolutely right that that's the vibe they're giving off. I reckon you'd benefit from a higher res picture - the OSL on the leader looks great in person, and you can't quite make it out on these guys.

Forguff sounds like a shite place to live. Still, can you imagine growing up in really high grav then fighting in a normal world? It'd be like fighting on a bouncy castle! No wonder they're gleeful  lol

These are ace. I have been deliberating getting shot of my old Dark Angels... I think I might have to revisit them instead - I haven't played with them in probably 15yrs! I had started a Dark Angel Primaris army, but the first born I could use with Grim Dark maybe? Hmmm.

Lovely stuff, the paint is very nice.

Thanks, mate, I appreciate your dropping in! I will admit since posting about my old army I may have bought some new (old) First Born for a future project...  o_o Grim Dark Future is definitely something I want to try out. I actually recently picked up 40K 3rd edition in a fit of nostalgia too. Maybe one day.

I wanted to share my Stargrave crew. I need to get playing with them again- they have had their fair (unfair) share of getting blasted by steam vents, shredded by lasers and mauled by beasties.

Cpt. Tregari Sutter likes to describe himself as an appreciator of fine arts, technological antiquities and data stacks. He is the Captain of the Fast Packet 'Kerry Denk'.

'Treg' has a fondness for robotics and unisphere networks in particular. In his youth his family’s wealth meant he was able to enjoy these pastimes with little actual labour.

Their dwindling fortunes during the Last War saw Sutter eventually conscripted into military service as a ‘technical specialist’. He’s never been able to explain what that really is to his crew on the rare occasion someone has asked. It’s possible this is the primary reason he has survived tothis point.

Childhood nostalgia for tech has been soured by the grim reality of an independent’s life in this galaxy. Treg Sutter is able to recognise the value in abandoned machinery and data hubs that others could miss. He has the technical savvy to dismantle and utilise archeotech to make best use of them without a middleman. He’s been able to ensure his survival to this point by cynical exploitation of such opportunities.

A network of buyers and informants has developed from the outcome of Sutter’s exploits. However, instead of getting Treg the wealth and fortune he wistfully remembers his antics have only dragged him deeper into a bad situation.

The Kerry Denk is not actually his - Treg ‘liberated’ the vessel during the final collapse of his commander's task force thanks to his hacking skills and perhaps the last scraps of his luck. He paid little thought to the original crew during those fiery last hours of service.

The Kerry Denk has been refitted with a pair of twin rail guns. Sutter has taken on several mercenaries. Where other outfits can be seen to be trying to make the best of a bad situation the crew of the Kerry Denk seek to enrich themselves and at others expense if necessary.

Cool looking crew.

What's the big thing in the vaguely Chris Foss scheme, back right, a jet bike of sorts?

Thanks mate. That is a robot mule type thing that provides much of the hauling and engineering duties. It's more like a utility sled than anything else.
I repainted a Phantom Menace Multi-Troop Transport thingy. It was bloomin tiny- that's a 40mm base its on. I think they were made by AMT? And I am very happy you compared the scheme to Chris Foss  lol

Nice crew, I did not even notice the robot being a tiny SW tank.
