Tiger Tiger... Burning?

A game of Chain of Command with Zingara (Russians) & Vodkafan (Germans).

Germans had to cross the table & exit with as much as possible.
Russians, no big surprise, had to stop as much as possible.

As is usual with battles both sides thought themselves hard done by.
Germans had, 'only one tank' (a Tiger !) and decided to take it through the village.
Russians had, 'nothing to stop a Tiger tank'

The German 'Blitzkrieg' lumbered slowly through the narrow lane. The very few infantry
tried to protect the column. They were however swamped by Ivans.
Russian victory.

True, though I was slightly amused to have both players tell me they had no chance of winning.

It was a fun game, & I had hoped a balanced scenario, well in as far as neither
commander got what he would have picked, but hey that is war.
Given the right to choose I think the:-

Russians would have added some (more) anti-tank capability. The rules do allow
HMGs to concentrate fire on the tank glacis, but the Russian player declined to deploy
his HMG as the Tiger might pick on it.

Germans would have swapped the Tiger for several lighter/smaller AFVs A/cars perhaps.
The German (during the post action discussion) admitted that the Tiger was an open
country weapon, but that he had kept it on the road to protect the convoy. As it hardly
moved or fired during the scenario it merely acted as a Russian road block would have.

It is nice & easy being a 'Monday morning quarter-back' or 'Back seat driver' one of the
perks of being an umpire.

That Tiger effectively tied me down by its mere presence - so the Russians skulked trying to protect the exit points on overwatch whilst trying to get at the soft skins by sending an infantry squad up the outskirts of the village. We got sucked into an engagement with a German infantry squad, but thankfully outnumbered and outgunned it forcing the remnants to retreat back to their half track, and then another popped its head out - no choices there - had to go for it :-), and then the remnants overran some German jump off points and tried to get a bead on the softskins - unfortunately a step too far and the squad took a bit of a pasting.

One German half track and squad remnants made a break for it straight up the road, overrunning one of my jump off points - but were immediately swarmed and put out of action. Too much for the Germans who decided to withdraw soon after.

Inspiring stuff.  I dug out my WW2 Russians as a consequence.  Painted a T34 too.  Still haven't found my Germans.

Good luck with your project. Funnily our Russians couldn't find their Germans after the game.
