I am running a Weird World War II campaign for the local players. The first game was last night and we had 7 players (4 Allies and 3 Axis). The scenario involved each of the teams sending their leader to neutral Sweden to track down a German scientist who has gone missing.
There were 7 Civilian models on the board and each represented an Encounter Marker. Players had to question each one to get information. But here's the hook, the civilians could lie or simply be wrong. So the players had to collect more than one bit of information and compare it to others. Once they thought they knew where the professor was, they could make their way toward him. Once someone started toward him, I started the countdown (the missing scientist had his own agenda).
Anyway, here are some photos from the game. This first one is just an overview of the setup. It represents a waterfront in Stockholm.
Here we see some of the characters trying to talk to Civilians. To get information, the model could try and deceive them (BRAINS vs. BRAINS check) or Intimidate them (BRAWN vs. GUTS). If you failed, then any attempt on that same model was -1, then -2, etc.
As everyone reaches the freighter, they discover that a surprise is waiting for them. The scientist has help in the form of some thugs.
And here we see the final scrum. Everyone had surrounded the professor and was trying to subdue him. His agents arrived in a coastal sub to try and help.
The game was decided on the final roll of the final turn with the American player able to swim off with the doctor in tow. Four attacks on the American in the water failed to dislodge the professor from his grasp and only passing a Final GUTS test did he get away.
Some information I can't post as there are still things the players don't know and won't know for a couple of games yet. I'll be assigning some Experience and Reputation Points based on heroics and acts of villainy.
