SYW action
« on: 05 November 2009, 05:43:37 PM »
An overview of the table at the start of last night's game. The British were commanded by myself, while Phil took command of the French. It was a typical 'encounter battle' to try out the Crusader Publishing Rank & File rules in a SYW context. I came second, after a titanic struggle in which my only real triumph was to drive off the French cavalry, only to have my infantry wilt under a hail of French fire...

British cavalry charge to glory, supported by medium and light guns.

French cavalry, shortly before they were driven from the field.

French infantry move forward into action...

While British infantry steadfastly await their fate...

In the French camp victory is celebrated

Yes, these are the new Foundry French, which are readily available in the Foundry shop in Nottingham. The rules give a fast, fluid and enjoyable game ~ despite last night's result ~ with no unexpected quirks. We recommend them for a game, having used them in the AWI, the War of 1812, the ACW and in the Crimea before last night's SYW baptism.

Cheers Yankee, I do wish they would sell them on line as I love the French and they would /could fit in with my FIW project, the mounted generals and grenadiers especially :-*

I really do ned to give the R&F rules a shot with my Napoleonics

Lowtardog, why don't you just call them up on the phone and place an order? The figures have been on open sale in the Foundry shop area for several months now, they even have some painted examples starting to appear on their site. I am sure Matt or Bernard would be happy to serve you that way and you could get the French figures you'd like for your FIW scenarios.
