Greetings

This forum has given me just the right combination of encouragement and pressure to make good progress on my  Waterloo Napoleonic collection. I am now hoping for the same for some side projects in the fantasy domain. Below are smaller projects that have been on my to-do list for a long time - often years. These are all "bite-sized" and exclude the massive projects that would take months to resolve. I will mark completed projects in green as we make progress.

Please select a project, write a comment naming it, and I will work on completing it. And of course show pictures after. We will do this sequentially in the order of comments. Let's go!

VOTING IS CLOSED (for now)

Thanks. I will start with some Empire units and then tackle Kislev. The big Empire vehicles still need ti be assembled so I am going to pick up the Demigryphs, Brucker (on Demigryph), and maybe the odd character first as a warm-up. WM Kislev is in "cold-storage" so I will dig it up, zenithal and then report what I have.

For the Empire, I will hav eto match my 20 years old paint scheme of purple and bone white which looks like these samples below:

Off we go!

I like those, they're looking good for 20 year old paintjobs.

Thanks Elk! This was my tournament army for  the US GT circuit back in the day. Many battle honours were gained :).

i am wrapping up for the day with at least something to show for the effort. Below is the completed Steam Tank. Not a masterpiece but it had to fit into the style of the old army. Plus, done is better than in a box collecting dust!

I also managed to assembly, undercoat and airbrush base layers on the Demigryphs (and of course wrap up a project for my Sci-Fi sister post... and a unit of Nassau infantry for my "main" post... gotta keep everybody satisfied :)).

The steam tank looks great and definitely fits the colour scheme.

Lovely paint job and an excellent colour scheme.

Where did you get those grapes transfers?
I know I could definitely use some for my dwarfs.

More excellent painted armies.  Your website is a great place to lose track of time looking at painted miniatures.  Good to see more of your collection getting finished.

Thank you all for the kind words!

The grape transfers are home made with technology from 20 years ago. Decal paper and a home inkjet printer. They held up surprisingly well. The army is based on the small town of Bogenhafen in the old Warhammer World. There was some info about this town and its wine/grape industry in early publications of the Warhammer Fantasy Role Playing Game. I made up the specific heraldry and colour scheme but I think it fits quite nicely.

Painting efforts have been slow due to the required prep work. I dug up the Warmaster Kislev army only to find that lazy younger me had only prepared half of it for painting. The other half still needs to be cleaned up, base coated, etc.. And those little models have an insane amount of flash so that part will take a bit of time. I am pushing forward on the Demigryphs in parallel so should have something to show by the weekend.

I bought transfer paper over 10 years ago for this exact purpose but never got around doing  anything with it. I'm hoping to eventually get things done.

I think it's an ideal match, colour wise, and a combination not often seen on the battlefield.

Just a sign of life: I am still working on preparing the WM Kislev force. Total pain with crazy amounts of flash that required essentially resculpting some areas. It took a lot of will power to finish the clean up all while looking across the room at my 8k printer and all those loving Kislev STL. The burden of nostalgia... now to spray coating and zenithal.

Meanwhile, I have also been making a bit of progress on the Demigryph Knights and Bruckner. Or at least on their mounts. Hoping to have these done in the next few days.

Shame the WM Kislev are such a pain to clean-up. Most WM figures have lots of feed spirals to remove, but few I’ve had have needed much more beyond that.

Well, this experiment failed badly. Cleaning up those Kislev models took all the steam out of my sails. i will get to them eventually, but will mothball this project for now.

Just to wrap up the started stuff, here are the Empire Demigryphs and Bruckner. 20 year younger me was smart enough to prepare some extra shields so I used those to tie everything into the old style. Still the boring bases of early 2000 though.

looking great! there is something about a cohesive "oldschool" fantasy army, that just really works for me... bright colors, fantastic beasts... great stuff overall!
