Ambush at the Ford Elizabethan Ireland AAR
« on: July 28, 2023, 10:37:16 AM »
Had another fabulous game using Irregular Wars rules, a bit one sided but that actually confirmed the rules work for me. Write up and lots of pictures on the blog here : https://gapagnw.blogspot.com/2023/07/irregular-wars-aar-ambush-at-ford.html

Great looking game, good to see Irregular Wars being played with 28mm figures, it really looks good.

I’m pretty sure a rear charge is the loss of 2 resolve - so even more impactful (this and flank charge resolve loss only apply if the defending unit is already engaged, and therefore can’t turn to face)

Can I suggest the mini dice holders from Pendraken, these can be added to the back or corner of a movement tray and along with mini dice make tracking wounds on units easier and neater. I’ve not got a photo to hand of them in use unfortunately.

Lovely looking game.  8)

The rules look interesting; Can the cards be printed at home, or only bought?

The cards aren’t essential, they certainly add some flavour to the game though.

The text of the cards is provided in the rules (though not in a method useful for printing) so you can either use dice or standard playing cards to select them.

I did get the cards, and they are very nicely produced and come in a plastic case.

peachey I agree with Fred, I did photo copy the card sheets from the rules but they dont cut up into cards too well. The bought pack are lovely though, dont think they are expensive.

Peachey I am tempted by seperate casualty markers to count the resolve but lets see.

Romark, thanks very much.

I did order the cards, & they are very nice.
They were pricey, especially when you add in postage etc. to get them over the pond,
but I decided to treat myself.
I hope to start my troop recruiting soon (real life has kyboshed any painting recently)
& will look at including holders for small D6s.

It all looks excellent & sounds fun too. Can't wait. :)

James sure we could organise that.

gostgost13 those sheilds are cast on, they only have them for the cavalry. Redoubt figures with head swaps.

Love the battle report!

The Battle of the Yellow Ford is something I want to recreate with my own 10mm project. With forces around 5,000ish each, it's a reasonable start as I move onto larger engagements from the Dutch Revolt and French Wars of Religion.

Probably will take a look at the 1568 Battle of Heiligerlee, as well, given it's also on the smaller size.

Keep this project going! I love it!
Focused on 6mm pike and shot and 28mm Frostgrave
