Musketeers game En Garde rules
« on: 30 July 2023, 10:17:18 PM »
A few photos of the En Garde game we played today, Musketeers vs Cardinal's guard. The Musketeers mission was to safely escort the King through the village. It all went wrong for the Musketeers on turn 2 when they were ambushed and it continued downhill from there.

Beautiful looking table!
Thanks, the buildings are a mix of homemade, 4 Ground, Total Battle Miniatures and some other resins. All put together by Pete.

Really gorgeous terrain - an ambush could hide in that!

Lovely table. How do you find the "En Garde" rules? I've been disappointed by many of the Osprey sets so only get them after a firm recommendation. I have been waiting for the Two Fat Lardies set but they seem to be on the back-burner. I have a large collection of Redoubt 28mm figures ready to game with so finding a decent set of rules would be very nice.

Very nice table but it would be good to know a little more about how the game went. It sounds an intriguing storyline.
Cheers

I enjoyed them, but the rules for hand to hand combat takes a bit of getting used to, we had to have a couple of run throughs of the Combat Pool system before we were happy with it. But I suppose that's what Swash buckling games should be all about. Movement and shooting are fairly standard. Warbases were meant to be bringing out some rules to go with their Musketeer figures.

Cheers. Cardinal Richleau had decided he wasn't going to put up with Louis XIII foppery anymore and was going to make him disappear and rule through his baby son. The King had found out about his evil plan and was making for the coast to board a boat to safety.

The Musketeers had to enter on the road and escort the King to the opposite side of the table, exiting either over the bridge or on the track. The baddies could have 4 men hidden anywhere on the table. As soon as the King came on he was ambushed from a house. One of the Musketeers fought them off, but suffered a bad wound. The rest of the baddies came on and just wore the Musketeers down with shooting, whenever engaged in swordplay the Musketeers easily outclassed the Cardinals men. But numbers won the day for the baddies in the end.
