This is what I’ve found in my searches …

If you look under Eureka Miniatures’ 28mm Conquistadores, Portuguese, you will find a close approximation of what Cimarrones looked like throughout most of the early Spanish Main:

https://eurekaminusa.com/collections/conquistadores-28mm-portuguese/products/100por13

And I would have no problem mixing them with these runaway Indian slaves too, in the same horde or raiding party:

Or … you could draw a little inspiration from the Cimarrones I had painted up a few years ago, mostly from a Foundry “Renegades” range that didn’t get much popularity, and with a small mix of Black Tree Ethiopians too, with a few added helmets and shields from various sources:

Breakdown of my collection:
24 Foundry “Afro-Caribbean Renegades” (SB0-34) with mixed weapons
8 Black Tree Designs Ethiopians with mixed weapons (IA1196)
16 Foundry “Afro-Caribbean Renegades” (SB0-35) with bows
8 Foundry Darkest Africa Tribal Archers

QUESTIONS
Has anyone bought and painted up an armed band of African runaways?  If so, which manufactures?  Did Firelock (Glory and Plunder) ever make any?   (I guess the same figures could be used as slave catchers also)
Got photos of YOUR collection?

Dan
PS.  Just found these when I happened to look up “Afro-Caribbean Renegades”:

Trent Miniatures had some figures for the Haiti rebellion that might be useful. Perry xhosa or NNC might be usable.

Outpost had some in their Conquistador range. Mixed melee and bows, very 'Dixon' in style with big heads.

There are 3 packs of armed maroons in the foundry pirate range, but these are definitely late 1600s/1700s.

The old glory pirate range has bald 'voodoo warriors' in rags with machetes.

Westwind Productions has voodoo cultists in their horror range, which might be suitable depending on the level of pulp/holywood in your history

When I wrote the Wargaming the Sugar Islands Campaign book Graham at Crann Tara made some Maroons to go with the book. These are still available from Crann Tara via Caliver books

https://cranntaraminiatures.co.uk/product/maroons/

They have open hands and come with a variety of weapons and of course you can add your own.

I'm away at the moment so don't have pics of my painted ones, but there's some on my blog if you take a look.
