« on: August 29, 2023, 11:39:35 AM »
Explanations later - first just some pics

Front Rank WOR horses with Citadel Chaos horse heads

1980s Citadel Chaos knights upper bodies on Front Rank knights legs so as to fit on the FR horses:

some were incomplete so finished them with plastic arms from spares box:

and these two were the top half of Chaos Maurader foot figures I had duplicates of:

Standard bearer can have a Chaos standard or a normal medieval banner:

Completed conversions on temporary bases for painting:

Comments welcome !
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

Having seen these in the 'flesh' I can confirm James has done a great conversion job.
I look forward to seeing them painted.

Thanks Peter and Pattus Magnus. I was also pleased the way the horses turned out. Some infantry and foot knights up next.

So.....I have all these lovely GW Chaos miniatures (and more not pictured)

BUT I can't use any of them  :'( as the majority are too big to fit 4 abreast on 60mm DBA frontage bases.... so I put those aside for a different project.
Next up I will show my solution for the foot knights option.

I need 20 chaos foot knights for the dismounted knights option.
I found half a dozen smaller Citadel figures:

This one is a converted Chaos Dwarf with longer legs added- now known as Sigurd Shortarm:

And who could forget the lovely Mace Lady:

Then I found some Copplestone Chaos knights now sold by Battlezone that are a good size:

And a few converted Essex and other manufacturers

Anyway here is a group shot of the whole 20:

On to the infantry next.

It appears you are creating a fantasy game for DBA. Can I ask why are you
intending to use DBA, historical rules, rather than HOTT, its fantasy companion?

So glad you asked! My plan was to do an army using the DBA army list for 100 years war medieval  French but substitute  {as far as possible) the old 80's Citadel Chaos miniatures. So I can use them as a straight DBA  French army or for HOTT. After the basic army is done I will add a couple of specific fantasy bases for HOTT like Evil Wizard, Lurkers, sneakers etc.
My first problem I hit was that the Citadel plastic horses and the associated riders' legs are just far too wide to fit 3 horses together on a 60mm wide base. That is why I had to use Front Rank legs and horses.

The French army list is actually a great basis for a Chaos army as it has lots of different options. For instance a horde of peasants can be a horde of thugs or even orcs.

Hi Vodkafan,
Just a thought. In our gaming group here, we have the same problem that fitting 28mm minis on DBA 'standard' bases often doesn't workout. The solution is actually given in the rule book. You are allowed to make the bases deeper than standard without issue, provided they're less than 60mm. It's amazing how many for you can fit onto a 60mm x50mm base :)
Best,
LS

Hi Lazy Student I know about that solution but I like the challenge!

I'll be interested to see the results! I ended up doing something similar for my army of mummies/Egyptian undead, who double as Early Hyksos for DBA.

Sounds cool! I should have everything primed and undercoated by next week then painting will begin.
