HMGS-PSW MINI-WARS Convention Buena Park CA Oct 14 & 15 MORE GAMES!

Greetings Fellow Miniature Gamers,

On Saturday October 14th & Sunday the 15th HMGS-PSW will be hosting its annual convention, being held this year at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Buena Park, California. As usual this convention will feature a mix of Historical, Sci-Fi and Fantasy miniature gaming. It's a nice hotel located down the street from Knott's Berry Farm, less than a 10 minute drive from Disney Land, under a half-hour drive from LAX (during non-rush-hours) and a little over a half-hour drive to Huntington Beach Pier. Which is to say, it's not a bad spot to stay at if you or others you love and travel with want to do some non-hobby related stuff while you're there.

The convention will be open 9am to 12 Midnight on Saturday October 14th & 9am to 7pm on Sunday October 15th, with 5,000 sq. ft. filled with vendors, a flea market, and dozens of tabletop miniature games spanning all genres.

I'm back to shamelessly self-promote one particular game at the upcoming MINI-WARS 2023 convention at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Buena Park, California -- which as mentioned above is just down the street form Disney Land and a sort drive to picturesque Huntington Beach Pier.

The game in question is "CAMERONE: Not Men but Demons!" which I will be helping to run together with my partners in miniature wargaming crime "Last Stand" Dan Gurule and Shawn "CAPT SHANKS" Hutson.

The game uses the popular The Men Who Would Be Kings colonial rules published by Osprey, 49 French Foreign Legion and approx. 350 nicely-painted Mexican figures, and some pretty nice terrain, the standout feature of which is the Hacienda de la Trinidad as built by the somewhat legendary Chris The Model Maker.  This will be the last time I take this particular model out to be enjoyed by the public for the foreseeable future, in celebration of the 160th Anniversary of the 1863 battle.  I may do so again in another 5 or 10 years, but who knows?  So I encourage anyone and everyone in Southern California (and beyond?) who's interested in an intense fight to the finish game... the 1862-1867 French Intervention in Mexico... the French Foreign Legion's iconic last stand... and/or awesome-looking but also gaming-friendly 28mm scale buildings to join us on Saturday October 14th and take up the wooden hand of Capt. Danjou or the leather gauntlet of Colonel Milan!

The convention is set to run from 9am to Midnight on Saturday Oct 14th & from 9am to 7pm on Sunday Oct 15th.  Our Camerone game will run from 10am to 5pm with a brief lunch-break included, and last I looked 4 of the 7 player slots were still available.

Finally here are some photos from the last time we ran this same scenario back in May at the HMGS-PSW Sand Wars con in Mesa, Arizona -- where I have to say it was a pretty rousing success enjoyed by all the players who took part, as well as us GMs:









































As listed in the first post on this thread, there will be many other cool games at Mini-Wars -- from Ancients to Moderns to Sci-Fi and Fantasy -- so if Camerone doesn't grab you, I still hope to see you there!

I'm back with details for another great game -- actually a day-long series of games -- being held at the Mini-Wars con on Saturday October 14th from 10am to 7pm...

That's when Orange County, California's own figure-painter & scratch-built terrain-maker extraordinaire Frank Patterson will be running an all-day series of ACW games -- including a refight of the April 1st 1865 Battle of Five Forks, where Phil Sheridan's Union victory over George Pickett's Confederates forced Robert E. Lee to abandon the long-running defense of Petersburg and ushered in the final campaign of the American Civil War, ending in Lee's surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia at Appomattox Court House less than 2 weeks later on April 12th, 1865.

These games will feature:

--The well-established local home-brew rules, "Fire And Maneuver," which use a simple and elegant method to incorporate supply and logistics limits into the tabletop tactical action;

--Frank's well-painted armies of Dixon "large" 25mm figures filled with character;

--A rotating series of tabletop layouts filled with his scratch-built terrain.

On Sunday October 15th at the HMGS-PSW Mini-Wars convention from 8am to 12pm the notorious "Last Stand" Dan Gurule will be running one of his infamous "ALWAYS SEND A GUNBOAT!" games, which -- depending on your age and taste in movies -- may remind you of a certain Steve McQueen classic from roundabout 1966…

China 1925 -- While on Patrol, an American Gunboat turns around the bend in the Yangtze river to find a "heavy boom" blocking this water chokepoint. The Chinese rebellion is in full swing. Students, thugs, warlords and military units are all in revolt but now have a common enemy: the Foreign Devils!

Room for 6 players using Dan's trademark combo of The Sword And The Flame and Gunboats & Dhows! All you have to bring is a good attitude, everything else will be provided.

Mexico 1914 -- Huerta executes Pancho Villa's good friend Presidente Madero, that was a mistake! Villa's forces turn on Huerta and fight a two-day battle. One of Villa's Generals, Rodolfo Fierro, breaks off from the main battle to destroy the Federales ammunition train. The betrayal of Madero will be avenged!

On Sunday October 15th from 2pm to 5pm at the HMGS-PSW Mini-Wars convention, Notorious "Last Stand" Dan Gurule brings his new, "We don't need no stinkin' Gunboats!" Pancho Villa Rides the Rails game just a little north of the border, to Southern California…

Room for 7 players using the venerable fan favorite rules The Sword And The Flame. All you have to bring is a good attitude, everything else will be provided, including the train.
