Blood on the Sands: A Game of Gladiatorial Combat
« on: October 14, 2023, 01:55:56 PM »
I have been working on a historically based gladiatorial combat game for many years now, called "Blood on the Sands", which was born right here on LAF back in 2013. There is a very long post already about it but I feel that the titanic thread of data may be very intimidating to wade through. I thought I'd make a new post that concentrates on where I am with Blood on the Sands now.

For those that don't know, the rules focus on one on one gladiator duels and try to replicate the dynamic "dance" of gladiatorial combat. I have created a Facebook page that I'd like to welcome anyone from LAF to join - there are already quite a few distinguished LAFers who've signed. I have made available a Quick Start kit that anyone can download and give it a go. So please come and try it out - I'd love to hear people thoughts about BotS.

I am really excited about this, and will buy it for sure. It’s interesting with a small scale combat systems. I will get the Sarissa buildings for it 🤩

I love what I've seen about Blood on the Sands but nothing would drag me back to the abomination that is Facebook. I guess I'll have to wait and see if it becomes commercially available.

Best of luck with it!

Great looking graphics Furt, well done designing a set of rules!

I’ll look forward to seeing feedback on them, I have a few neglected gladiator figures that have yet to see combat.

Cheers!

Thanks all. Of all the places I hope to get BotS some attention - LAF is the most important to me.

I hear you ithoriel, but Facebook is a necessary evil for me.

If you are keen, and still want to try them, email me at bloodonthesands@gmail.com and I'll send them over.  :)

There is a really interesting dynamic play in the game  with a good amount of difference between the different gladiators with an amazing historical underpinning to the whole affair.

I'd be up for a few games frank if we can T something up.

Cheers

I played it with the London boys at the BLAM 2016. I fought Captain Blood and got really into it. That it will be released will be a dream coming true, so do it. I still have a lot of gladiators waiting for paint. Looking forward to it

Furt very kindly sent me the Starter Kit which I read through last night. I thought the rules well written, well laid out and easy to follow and understand.

The plan is to print out the play sheets, dig out my Spartacus board game and give them a whirl .... if my printer works (haven't printed anything since Christmas past) and if I can remember where the box for Spartacus wound up.

Further thoughts once I get something on the table.
