Tom Swan and the Mismatched Arms - Kitbashing Perry Miniatures
« on: October 19, 2023, 11:51:27 PM »
Wow, extra fast delivery of my Perry Miniatures.  Ordered from Caliver books only two weeks ago, they have arrived in New Zealand already!
The men at arms set looks rather daunting.
The unarmoured bodies from the Mercenaries set and War of the Roses infantry set predictably lacked swords.  This is one thing I was needing for urban skirmishes.
Luckily, I had spare arms from Oathmark Elf Light Infantry, Dark Age Infantry (Gripping Beast) and some Arab Light Cavalry (Gripping beast????).

Test miniatures temporarily stuck together....

Perry miniature with Arab arms.

Perry with Oathmark Elf arms, and an Elf head!

I think these work.

Any tips on putting the men at arms together would be welcome.

Two more.
A foppish chap with a target shield and Giannis the Greek mercenary - I figured he might have a beard.

Nicely done, they do work well as unarmoured sword and buckler men.

To get more sword arms, try some hand swaps. The hands are easily cut off at the wrist and swapped between arms. It looks like you've got the light cav set judging by one of the heads - there is one sword arm there which you can hand-swap with other arms to get different combos of clothing, armour and poses. You should have 2 un-gauntleted sword arms on the Mercenaries command frames you can do the same thing with, plus a dagger in the left hand.

If you ever get hold of the agincourt English infantry box, you will find you have a good sword arm per frame (so 6 in total) which can be used as is or hand-swapped.

Men at arms - is it the mounted men at arms or foot knights set you are finding daunting?

As for the

Nice work, it is a great thing about plastic

I get frustrated with not enough Pole arms in the packs and too many swords lol!

Cheers

Looks like you are off to a good start with this project.  :D

Thanks for the replies.  I thought the foot men-at-arms might be hard to put together, but ended up being easy.  There is very little to clean up on them - very well sculpted.

I have finally put together some of my Perry miniatures.
The men-at arms fit together easily - not as hard as I had feared.  I think most of the worry was around some of the two handed weapons arrangements with hands and bits of weapons that needed to be lined up.

I have posted the mongrel miniatures - those which have used bits from other plastic kits.  Gripping Beast Arabs, Oathmark Elves, Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors.  I was almost tempted to use the hans and bow from a Goblin but decided against this.

The figure I like most is the one with the longsword in the last photo.  As per Charlie's suggestion I cut the hand and sword from an Elf to replace the halberd on a man-at-armsand used a blob of liquid plastic putty to make the pommel.

I have also seen some missed bits of flash that need cleaning.  :-[

Very nice. Exactly the type of project I’m contemplating. Just started reading the Tom Swan novels based on the mention here and thoroughly enjoying them.
