Private Hannaford, 53rd Foot - Mutineer Miniatures
« on: 10 November 2009, 11:40:24 PM »
Based upon the portrait of Captain Peel RN after the Third Battle of Cawnpore, Private Hannaford appeared alongside Peel in the painting.

Captain Jones of the RN remarked on the 'brick red jackets' of the 53rd Foot and this is the look I have tried to recreate. The 53rd were one of only three foot regiments that had red facings. I have also followed other period paintings that show the white trousers and hats in a more bleached linen tone. This may be a bit of artistic licence on my part as Hannaford is painted wearing white trousers and hat in the portrait of Peel.

The figure is from the new Mutineer Miniatures range covering the Indian Mutiny.

Lovely work. I suspect you are closer to the mark than Peel on the linen color.

That is a fine miniature - both the sculpting and the painting!! Excellent stuff!!

I suspect that I will be buying a load of figures from this range over the coming months!!!
