The Last War - starting with the scenery
« on: 28 October 2023, 11:39:09 AM »
Caught the bug for this one, so started making scenery for it by cutting down a free sheet of Styrofoam. After some testers I decided 4cm tall would be perfect, so angled the lot with the foamcutter, Added ribbed card for the tinned sheet and added all the wood supports. Just finished cutting and melting in all of the craters and adding spackle to them, once that has dried I can start adding a few details here and there.

It's a lot of scenery, much more than what I need for the game, but might as well use it for Killteam etc and I like variation and being able to mix, so.... :)

Good stuff.

Is the intention to use the highest level (i.e. the top of the foam) as ground level, so that you have trenches. Or are these more built up revetments?

The first. I don't have the space for a fixed board of any kind so prefer a lot of scatter scenery to place on the board, just makes life (and storage) much easier.

That's a great start to a really expansive trench system! It'll look really convincing once properly painted.

Have you considered some slightly sloping 'hills' to act as no-man's land?

And with that I mean pieces of foam that slope between the level of the trenches on one side and the flat of the table on the other side. I think about 20 to 30cm wide would do the trick? That way, you could blend the trenchworks into the table (on one side) without either filling the entire table with scatter terrain or creating a full, dedicated table with recessed trenches.

Let's see the progress! :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

That is one of the ideas once this lot ifs finished. But progress, as usual, is slow thx to my hands acting up. I hope to make more progress next week.
