This thread is a little belated, as I started the project two years ago. It took a while to build momentum, but I now have core units done for Austrians and Prussians. The figures are all from Pendraken. They’re beautiful little figures to paint.

The picture shows the Austrian vanguard marching through (fictional) Kleinadlerberg.

Very nice. I game SYW is 15mm using the old Freikorps figures, but if starting again would probably opt for 10mm. What rules do you use....or plan to use?

So far I have played a couple of games of Twilight of the Soldier Kings and enjoyed them. My only criticism of the rules is that the presentation is very stripped down and I find it difficult to picture how some of them work (kind of like learning DBA, maybe, but not quite so oddly worded).

I also have Might and Reason. I like what I see in the rules, but haven’t had a chance to play yet.

One anomaly in M&R: light troops do well in melee in woods, but not so well in firefights with line troops.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Nice project.  Seven Years War in 10mm is a great way to do it.  The Pendraken figures are are wonderful and the specital of a big 10mm STW battle is awesome.

I have a good sized collection of Pendraken armies representing Austria, Prussia, Russia, The Army of the Palatine and the Reichsarmee.  I am working on all of these and a new French army.

I base my armies on actual OOBs

The Fencibles have SYW armies in 15mm, been sitting on the shelf for some time now.
We have Prussians, Austrians, Russians, some Bavarians, British and French for both sides of the pond. And militia, settlers and lots of Native warriors.

I snapped a few pictures of my 10mm Austrians today when I had the photography backdrop set up.

The basing is for Twilight of the Soldier Kings, so each unit of two bases represents a brigade.

First, the cavalry:

In the first picture, the vanguard - a unit of Grenz-hussars, and a unit of hussars. (And the sneaky dragoons, who appear in both pictures.)

In the second, dragoons and curassieurs.

Next, the main battle line:

In the first picture, a German division. In the second, the more brightly attired Hungarians.

Each division has two units of musketeers and one of converged grenadiers.

Finally, some specialists - the artillery.

And the whole force assembled. Not enough for a field army by themselves, but enough for a credible wing on an army.

A very nice collection Pattus - the painting is outstanding, especially the cavalry!

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words!

I find it an interesting period to game. The Pendraken figures are a joy to paint, too. They have enough details to do some fun stuff, especially on the cavalry, yet are simple enough that I feel like I can focus on the unit rather than the individual. On 15mm and larger, my painting speed drops a lot, due to trying to paint really fine detail.

I’ll post some pictures of my Prussians soon. I don’t have quite as many of them yet, but that doesn’t seem to matter in most games, as each one seems to be worth three Austrians!

I’d recommend Sam Mustafa’s Maurice rules for this period.
