New ABC Warriors from Warlord Games
« on: November 25, 2023, 09:27:46 PM »
Thoughts on the upcoming releases from Warlord?

Some of the models are fantastic - Mek-quake, the new hover car - but most are pretty meh. IMHO. They are also expensive, ranging from 6 to 20 pounds each, with the 8 model starter set coming in at 75 pounds. They will be mostly in the new resin, which I dislike, and I have a lot of the older sculpts from Mongoose and Foundry.

I am not familiar with the story line either, as I stopped reading 2000Ad around issue 1000 (mostly).

So I am probably only going to pick up a couple of models, and give the game itself a miss. Anyone want to change my mind with their insights?

I'm with you on the 'meh'.
'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

I think you pretty much nailed it on the head.  Premium prices when a fair portion of the models are not so hot.  It is too bad as the genera has a big following.

Yeah I'm a fan of the ABC's. The models look very faithful to the current artist who draws the comic (Clint Langley I think) but yeah I'm not sure why I don't like the look of most of the models....

I should be all "yay" but leaning more toward "meh", too.

I'm not that big a fan of the Volgan War books, mainly because I find the Langley art to be a bit overwrought in its mannerisms these days, and the release is not the no-brainer purchase I feared it might be because I already have a huge lot of the characters, either from Foundry or converted.

That said, I am happy to finally see a decent Mongrol figure released, the rank and file look interesting, too, and if the rules are a port of the really solid Strontium Dog rules (which I *think* were also adapted for the Judge Dredd release), I may be getting this launch bundle, because 150 Euros plus whatnot seems okay for what you get.

I'm still hoping that one day they'll do Rogue Trooper.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of Langley's art and his work on Slaine completely butchered it in my eyes, after so many superb artists over the years have graced his pages.

I quite like Langley's artwork. Just preferred Ezquerra/Bisley/Talbot/McMahon more.

Would have loved to see ABC Warriors/Terminators/Goths, with Nemesis himself as an expansion. And the Blitzspear!

Yeah I'm a big Bisley fan too :)  That Nemesis expansion is a great idea I would like to see a game set on terra vs the Termites. Terror Tube!

Duncan Jones has a Rogue Trooper project announcement coming in the new year (from industry scuttlebutt).  This might still happen.
