Fireforge ashigaru
« on: 03 December 2023, 04:47:30 AM »
My first batch of Fireforge ashigaru. Actually had these for quite a while but been busy.

They go together well. Particularly like the long yari, which is long enough for nagae-yari in game terms. The poses are solid. Bigger than Perry, but if not mixed in the same unit should look fine on the tabletop together. Far superior to the other plastic ashigaru on the market.

They don’t look bad but I’m not convinced by the levelled pose. Having held both a pike and a nagai-yari, the left arm preferably needs to be tight into the chest.

Are they fairly multipose?

Well, that's me mucking around with the models more than anything.

Bit of flexibility in poses, and there are more legs than torsos, so there is a kneeling option.

The other option on this particular sprue is naginata. But you could mix with with the samurai sprues as well with a bit of knife-work.

Are these closer to the size of the Fireforge plastic fantasy figures (not-Starks) than the historicals (Byzantines)?

I am also one of the 20 per cent (according to FF) awaiting delivery. Nice looking minis but the uneven fulfilment is a real turn-off.

Have you assembled any archers yet?

I am having difficulty getting the yumi in a position where the (imaginary) string will not catch on the armour.
