Flannan of Midhe, had forced all the lords and chieftains of Ireland to submit to him and acknowledge him as High King. He set his sights now ob mainland Britain. Some of the chieftains of Powys asked him for aid in throwing of the yoke of Rhodri the King of Powys. Rhodri turned to the hated men of Wessex to help.

Alfred the younger, nephew of Alfred the elder, was keen to help, for it was Flannan's men that had slain his uncle. Alfred the younger marched deep into Wales to confront the Irish and their allies.

This was a two player game between myself and my cousin. My plan was to hold the lower slopes of Cadair Berwyn and await the charge of the Irish. My goal was Blood - slay more enemy Heroes. The Irish were canny and although the Focus Cards (saying which Hero activates) didn't break well for my cousin, he held back even though the fall of the cards was enticing him to advance.

I switched plans when the Irish didn't advance and launched Wulfhere and Edwin at Donnal,the lone Irish Hero in the centre. Donnal's forces were scattered and he, abandoned by all but one Kinsman, legged it to a small farm. Sadly, for me, Edwin had been injured and his shieldwall broken in the fighting. When Aedan, the Hero my cousin had held back, finally got into action, his charge broke through Edwin's ranks and saw Edwin felled.

On my left, Alfred the younger and Flannan battled each other to a stand-still; worryingly, the battle was deep in my half. When night came, it was found that the Irish success or failure in achieving their goal determined who held the field and was the victor. My cousin's goal was Onslaught - get more Heroes into my half, which he did with Aedan and Flannan.
