20mm Soviet engineer miniatures
« on: 20 December 2023, 03:45:51 PM »
Appeal to the Hive Mind please.

I've been trying to find some 20mm WW2 Soviet engineer miniatures to join my newly started Platoon centered force using AB minis. I'm looking for figures with mine detectors, wire cutters, mines etc to make up some teams for CoC.

I will strenuously refute any suggestion this is project is due to non-existent self-control whilst browsing or having too much time due to bourgeoisie distractions such as being on holiday.

AB don't make any, no luck with CP or Elhiem and a scroll through Plastic Soldier Review didn't come up with anything worth while.  I couldn't spot any examples using the search function here and my google searches drew a blank - everything seems to be assault engineers...

I couldn't find any 3D prints on Etsy - but guess that's not the best place to look - any recommendations for print or STL sites?

Thanks in advance

Flinty - I know nothing about Red Army engineers, well OK, I know just a little about them. Given you are using AB figured for your platoon I'd be tempted to get their Scouts set (wearing amoeba suits) and add the details you need - a AT mine hanging from a hand, a set of wire cutters or some mine tape on the ground next to the kneeling or prone figures - that sort of thing.

Elheim do a pack of 8 engineers

Cheers Panzer - I should really learn to read, I now see the description says flamethrower and mines, I originally saw body armour and brain assumed they were all combat/assault types.

Pete, inspired ! - and about the level of conversion I'm capable of at 20mm.

Cheers Both.

I seem to remember the soviets had an unusual looking mine detector array - Osprey order methinks...

Flinty - some info here

Rather nifty that the detector ring can be mounted on a rifle. Makes a conversion even easier

There is a great lack of Soviet engineer models in 20mm.

Zvedza makes an excellent set of engineers with mine detectors. Unfortunately it is a Russian product, made in that country which pursues an illegal war in Ukraine, so I cannot recommend it to anyone.

TQD produces a set of two engineers in greatcoats with flamethrowers. It is mighty good.

Battlefield Miniatures used to make a set of guys with satchel charges, pole charges etc. but they've been out of production for years.

In addition, a number of companies produce assault engineers, but they're a but different force than non-assault ones.

Cheers Pete, interesting articles - quite an innovative mounting method for the array - I think I saw an alternative version with overlapping triple(?) antenna, bit like a venn diagram. But an easy conversion as you point out.

Agreed, on both counts. Strange that you can trip over any number of sappers and endless pioneers, but nothing for the Red Army.
I did have a good trawl through your shop of course, which I can heartily recommend as a source of all those things you didn't know you needed.

I did find a post on the rather excellent Moiterei's bunte Welt blog, which re-scaled some STL's. Jolly nice they look to with some interesting poses here

Please be gentle with me, my first post.

Sadly the only Soviet Engineer figures I have are Zvedka which are a Mine sweeper type team, but as others have suggested other Manufacturers have a good trawl through the inter web.

I can think of three

FAA do selected packs of pioneers with tools
Elhiem have a few suitable figures
Battlefeild had a good set, but sadly out of production now
XAN miniatures had some under the old Fantassin range, just awaiting remolding.

Cheers
