Fast Flowing River
« on: November 15, 2009, 02:22:47 AM »
I took the approach on how I make my dirt roads and applied it to making fast flowing rivers. A base of masking tape made to about 4 inches width in a slow curving manner for the outline. The 3 seprate thin coats of brushable caulking, each coat allowed to dry fully. Each coat took about 2 minutes to brush on, and about half an hour to dry.
After the third coat was dried, I carefully pulled the tape up and flipped it over. Brushing the caulking over the sticky side of the tape took a bit of doing....using one finger to hold the tape down, with a bit of caulking on it so it didn't stick. When the first was dry, the second went on a bit thicker, then using the brush I dabbed at the surface, fairly all over the entire river surface. Let dry, then use an exacto blade the sheer off high spiky bits, then a final blue wash of paint gives you :

And there you have it. Follow up artical in the works on a very winding 2 inch wide creek.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting!
The blue is a bit too blue for my liking  ;)
It looks more like the Red Sea. Maybe having a blue-green color mix would be more appropriate

Aye. I would have gone for something more grey-brown-turquoise. Other than that, a very inventive approach.
