History of the Runestaff.
« on: 28 January 2024, 09:49:06 AM »
Yesterday I felt a little thrill, something not felt for all of this past Age.

A couple of images appeared on the 15mm Fantasy Gaming group, something unexpected.

I wait and hope I may see some of these on my desk in the not too distant future and, of course, hope for more.

I love that Eureka are doing this! Big fan of theirs and of Maceface Miniatures.

I have a decent sized collection of their earlier and unreleased Hawkmoon models, but I'll definitely start a new project with 18mm!

Oh.

Oh my.

This is very tempting, I've always wanted to do Hawkmoon. It's a whole new scale, but still...

Is Hawkmoon another eternal, reluctant anti-hero like Elrik?

Both are versions of the eternal champion in the full Moorcock mythos

Much more of a straightforward hero and not an anti-hero at all, as I (dimly) remember it.

Yeah, the first Hawkmoon cycle is very much a straight fantasy story. The second is where it gets a bit more multiversal and meta...

I think it was the first book of thd second cycle (The Champion of Garathorm) that made me want to do Hawkmoon on the tatabletop.
In it he recreates the Battle of the Kamarg on a huge table with little metal soldiers, playing out different scenarios to see if there was a way he could have won without all his friends dying.
He sits on a dark room, obsessing over the miniature battle, not washing and being antisocial.
If he ate nothing but cheesy poofs and coke he'd be a ringer for some of the convention wankers I've seen...

I remember thinking that Count Brass was an absolutely mind-blowing book when I read it (early in secondary school, I think). I can't recall quite why - something to do with time - but I recall being astounded.

Like you guys, I loved the Hawkmoon books.

I have a load of the original sculpts, which are really good, I only have a slight niggle about the new figures and that is the chins on the Granbrettans. The face masks were full masks and shouldn’t have the chins showing.

I guess even with fantasy you can get anoraks…. 😂

Perhaps I should read the first book?  I never did take to Elric.  I must be odd man out!

Hawkmoon, Flamingo, Flame Lance. I know I read the books but I don't really remember anything.

Though not yet released if you politely inquire of Nic at Eureka Australia, magic can happen -

"we have the Orders of Bull, Wolf, Boar and Mantis. Eight of each so far (command and personalities to come) and they cost AUD$11.00 including GST for each set of 8. I could send you some now"

When I have some I'll put together some comparison pics.

Some comparison shots of recent arrivals in the post. I'll post photos of the four Orders by the weekend(ish).

Wonderful and terrible at the same time!
