What colour should this be?

Being the naughty boy I am, I built two of these on Sunday for the Whispers of the Orient game in a week or so. I should really be finishing the 'nef docking station but unfortunately I have a bad habit of going "Ooo, shiny!"  





Fairly happy with the manga/steam tank look but maybe the turret needs something, perhaps just a cylinder instead of a dome

The dome's great, keep it. Concerning color, I'd propose a navy grey...

If it's Japanese, you should paint it white, like the WWII Zero.

For colour, I'd go with a naval grey as well, possibly doing the dome in white and picking the hatch out in red? Or would that be overcomplicated?

The feet are laser cut (like most of the stuff I do   )

I was thinking a kind of mustardy yellow simliar to some of the manga walking tanks that you see. Jury's still out though  

I kinda like the grey and white though, hmmm

For Japanese I'd go with blue and grey/white.

Also, for a man of your skill, I expect to see pistons driving the top leg joints!

As for colour, it depends if you want a uniform colour for all of your steam armour. How about basing it on Samurai armour: black with red or brass lining? Then again you'd know a hell of a lot more about that than me!

Grey/white would be my first choice with blue close behind. I associate green with Zero's and that wouldn't work.

I was going to suggest going with a traditional Samurai armour colour scheme, ( I see Thunderchicken had the same idea). Perhaps with a sashimono flying from the smokestack. But then you probably knew I 'd say that

I'm going to seriously have to rethink the armour for the punitive invasion of Japan next week, as the birts are going to be seriously outgunned (no change there)

 I have done my Japanese armoured car red using GW mechrite red with a devlan mud wash. Must admit Im no expert on samurai either but it sort of looked right to me , it also make a change from the more rtraditional steam tank colours. The steam samurai I have in  production will be a combination of red and black.
Heres a pic, the flash makes the red look far brighter than it really is.

A good naval grey - I use an undercoat of GW Shadow Grey, followed by Codex Grey, then lots of weathering. Finish off with a Rising Sun flag flying from the rear of each vehicle (I re-paint flags from the Warflag website). For variation give a different mon badge on each vehicle (Revo do some nice decal sheets). Strangely enough, I'll be using this colour scheme on the Japanese VSF tanks that willl hit my painting table next week 

Alternatively, how about a good ble to match the infantry unifiorms?

I would say go with the white using the rising sun on the dome, or the black & red laquer look. BTW those are really great.
