Figure search - British Guards in Bearskin
« on: March 09, 2024, 10:10:38 AM »
I’m looking for a British Guards figure in what I’d call parade uniform (that may not be technically a correct term - I’m not sure). They need to be marching at the slope, with Lee-Enfield rifle, no equipment other than customarily worn on parade and a big 28mm "scale". I had some Foundry Crimean foot Guards but they were too small, had too much equipment and the wrong weapon so had to be rejected. The only other range that came near was Ironclad. Size is good but they’re in the wrong pose and have too much equipment.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Doug

Great War Miniatures? But they may have too much equipment than you are after?

Warlord Games do Crimean War but I don’t find their website easy to navigate.

I've never ordered anything from Tradition of London, so I cannot comment on price or quality or customer service.  That said, they have a wide range of toy soldiers, including a full set of 30mm British Guards Trooping the Colours

Thanks for the ideas. The GWM figures do have too much equipment, unfortunately and, along with the Warlord Crimean, have the wrong weapon. I do want the Lee-Enfield. :(

I remember when starting wargaming in the late sixties, Tradition was always mentioned by the likes of Don Featherstone and Brigadier Peter Young. It looks to me as though they’re still selling the same figures from the same moulds…! Having said that, the toy soldier look may work although they’re very skinny by today’s standards.

I’ll investigate further and thanks for the suggestion.

:D That really takes me back. I probably bought a set when they came out (I would have been 14). They would have been ideal with a few mods (size, quality of sculpt, material - to name a few). I followed the link you posted and it really brought home the inadequacies of the product. A nice reminder, however.

Not marching  more the classic 'who goes there?' *pose but the closest thing you are likely to find, including the fact that the figure is equipped with an SMLE. Eureka's Grenadier Guard.

Scarlet and Gold make 30mm Guards in ceremonial Uniform but they are modern day so armed with modern rifles..

Can't think of anyone making large 28mm - Irregular Miniatures do them, but I am not sure how big those are?

All the others I know of are 54mm...

The Britannia range (now at Grubby Tanks)

When they first came out everybody sold 25mm figures, so they were sold as ... 25mm Figures, but they always were big beefy lads.  lol
Should fit with what you want.

That’s really nice, thanks. I’ll file it away in case I can’t get the marching pose anywhere. Also, there’s only 2 in stock on the Eureka UK website.

Thanks, Mike. I’ve had a look at both your suggestions. The very "toy soldier" look of Scarlet and Gold wouldn’t be a problem but the weapon is a definite no-no. :(

The Irregular are ok to look at but I don’t know how big they are and they have much more equipment than I want.

They sound like possibles but there’s no photos on the web page so who knows? And they’re Crimea so,probably the wrong weapon :(

Thanks to all for input so far - much appreciated.
