Absolutely brilliant work, love the character in these miniatures, sculpting "around" the altar also gives them very fitting and natural poses  :-*

I really like your concept of it slowly trundling forwards.  Now I think of it, the old version with horses is at risk of suddenly bolting off over the horizon.

I'm glad you're all interested in this daft side project.
I have to agree I was never a fan of the War Horses for similar reasons.
Here's a couple of progress pictures.
The base is starting to get just about the right amount of crowded. I've started the banners and have just about enough prayer parchments made to make it worth colouring them in

Just about finished all the bits.
As I've been using leftover bits of clay from other bits of work. They're a bit rough around the edges as the clay is at the end of its working life. Plus I've been quite lazy with areas that will be difficult to see when it's painted and put together ( such as shield hands.) but it's good enough  'colouring in' as Dags would say.
So it's undercoating and paint throwing next.

I only now noticed the lad who did not wear his safely loafers sitting behind the altar  lol

That is just awesome!

Can't wait to see it coloured in... :)

So much character! I especially like the dude at the back rubbing his foot.

I'm glad you like the little bits going on with in the set. There's an argument on the rear wheel where one chap is threatening to bash another with a stone. The other side there's the figure pushing on the hooded figures as the banner starts to fall out of place .
Then the two figures at the front trying to get the chap on top to listen.
Then as Fram has pointed out I made a nod at the earlier comment about the wheel chap looking like he's about to have his foot run over. With a chap who did  ;D
As for robe colours I'm thinking off white as the starting point . As I originally thought of black or Combi of the two. But I'm pretty sure that Black would cause them to disappear into a dark blob when viewed at a distance. A combination of the two is likely to act like a dazzle camo .at similar distances. Where as the lighter colour will allow natural gaps and shaded areas to still distinguish them as individual figures at a table top distance.
( Well that the logic anyway.)

All fantastic! Love the idea of the little diorama, it’s what makes these larger models so much fun, after all :)

There we go. 99% done as the Matt varnish did a great job on killing some of the tones on the figures.( Plus I've noticed a few spots were I got it completely wrong. I'm going to blame it on bad lighting not at all on me rushing it and the bought of CBA when it came to plugging in an extra light.,)

Wow, that’s a very impressive piece! Great vision and execution on the build. I’m a bit lost for words… the available superlatives don’t quite seem superlative enough.

Some surprisingly warm tones on the cart that work very well. The whites on the robes are also very nice.
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
