This is one of the thermoplastic Quar figures from Zombiesmith.

He is armed with a Grifkis double barrelled shotgun (and has a hand axe as a backup weapon).

I really like the choice of green for the crusader chap (are they chaps? Do even they know or is it a bit like Pratchett’s dwarf courting?). They all look great, I especially like the choice of skin colours and the fact that they don’t clash with the uniforms - even with the blue coftyrans.

Thanks.
[A]re they chaps? Do even they know or is it a bit like Pratchett’s dwarf courting?).
Quar are described as synapsids (so two sexes) and most characters use the male pronoun.

Western Iron includes details of the life of the Dowager Mauvn (and sketches showing female clothing).

There might be female partisans.

The base colour for the Crusader uniform is Citadel Snotwomble green.

Thanks I’ll check that out (and make a mental note of the paint colour). I need to properly read Western iron - I got distracted building my small handful of crusaders and coftyrans and going overboard on adding stuff to them  :D

There might be female partisans.

Speaking as someone who’s married to a Kurd - God help any enemy Quar if there are! lol

Do we even know the gender of a Quar?  Maybe the soldiers are all female?

Sorry about the font / size changes - I hate this editor and asked if it could be debugged previously to no response...
Do we even know the gender of a Quar?  Maybe the soldiers are all female?
Some of the metal figures are male going by the use of "he" - Gybrayl is a 'kit' or youngster and noted as 'he just happens...'

If you look at the Songs of Our Ancestors book they are in the majority noted as male:
A lone rhyfler stood up on the peak of a mountain,
He stood proud and tall...

There is also the notes entitled 'Rise Ye Sons of Elghmore' and this has characters that are referred to as 'he'.
There is one mention of ladies (there are others) that springs to mind from In His Last Goodbye:
...
To mother dear his last goodbye

Old dyna opens sleepy eyes, and thinks she heard sad, muffled cries.
Down to the doors she quickly flies;

So we know they have 'he' and 'her' and females are of multiple ages (daughters are mentioned) but I cannot remember / spot anything about the sex of fighters being 100% male or if they only have two sexes...

I expect females would fight as militia was raised in some areas and I see no reason why the regular army would not be of any sex.

In the Arnyarans squad I believe there is a female Quar figure.
It’s not super distinct.

Though the tech level of Alwyd is roughly equivalent of WW1, the culture appears to have accelerated from a late medieval to Renaissance equivalent to World War one - the Crusade against the existing monarchies having pushed technologies.

Imagine if the Civil War had not been about flavours of religion (and whether one person or a limited number of people should dictate the law) and had engaged the population rather than one group of politicians setting their minions on another group of politicians' minions.

Parallels with the fall of the Commonwealth with the state of the Crusade after the death of the Alkinder abound.

[Edit]
Okay, a bit anglo-centric as there are also parallels with the French Revolution  into the Napoleonic wars if Napoleon had started it.

Tldr: My assumption is for statistical purposes, the regular armies are male (example of Monstrous Regiment not withstanding).
Irregular armies and Arnyara armies might well be mixed.

Re: UVS goes to Alwyd: Fynrydhad tractor 02/02/2025

So having received my two boxes of Quar Fidwogs,  the first thing assembled is the tractor.

There is a mould line between the rivets that needs removing, and the rivets on the plate to the right are distorted by the moulding process.

Here is a comparison with a real world tankette, the Carden Loyd

An Empress model.

I have not assembled the infantry yet (I have put the bodies on one sprue together) so here is the Fynrydhad with a Crusader.

Nice.  Everyone one is in love with the short Figwog and their itsey-bitsey  tractors.  😀

So the first one is painted.

The colour is Army Painter Chaos Red spray, but is a completely different colour to the acrylic,  so I am unsure what colour I am going to use on the infantry.

First Fidwog painted, a Crown Milwer.

With tractor support.

In the fluff, quar from Fidwog are shorter than other quar.
This is reflected in the miniatures.
