Arguing when money talks: Der Soldner. A Review
« on: May 09, 2024, 11:32:54 AM »

When you've been playing wargames for 30 years like me, you might think that you've pretty much seen it all. Turn-based, IGO-UGO, alternate turns, reaction systems: I've played it all. And then suddenly a ruleset emerges that has a totally new approach: Der Soldner.

Glad to see more Matrix like games getting published in hobby wargaming space. Most of the games I play solo are very much in that style, at least to some extent.

I like the "dice bidding" mechanic here. It solves the problem of not having a referee/facilitator in a competitive game. How well does the rolling for time work? I find it a little too rigid for my idea of a Matrix Game, but maybe it flows much better during play?

Also, for people interested in Matrix style wargames, Nordic Weasel released War Story which is a good starting point for getting into this kind of game :)

Looks good, pity it doesn't ship to New Zealand. If anyone knows of a site that does, let me know please
Cheers

Hi Sandinista, try Amazon Germany. I just ordered a copy from there - delivery might take a while though. Oh for a pdf version ...

Sounds really interesting but is there a way of getting it if you don’t speak Dutch?

Authors note. I have asked the publisher for advice. Will share as soon as I know more.

Thanks for the introduction. It does sound really exciting, indeed. I will consider to have a closer look, if I find an opponent, who is likewise appealed by it!  :)

Looks like it doesn't ship to the U.S. either.  I would like to pick it up, sounds intriguing.

Tell them to release a pdf - looks like a no brainer purchase for me.

Unfortunately they don’t do PDFs… One thing I learned. The ancient-medieval supplement is available as PDF and fully done by myself… but that’s only a supplement.

My publisher indicated yesterday they would put it on Amazon in another way that should allow it to also ship to other countries…

The publisher has updated Amazon and a good friend of mine in the US checked if he could order it… he could. I just opened Amazon.com and set delivery to New Zealand and it looked like this is now possible…
